I could picture the Islanders doing that at TDL if they're out of the race, but not at this point - there's no one really ready to step up and play 82 games at RD3 in their org right now, and no one that Edmonton could send back that could do that either.

We all know what happens next. Edmonton fans call him an overrated third pair guy, and isles fans respond by asking why do U even want him then.

I at least appreciate that the value is fair. A 2nd & a good prospect is what I'd aim for in a Mayfield trade (anything above that is pure gravy) so getting a guy with NHL projection like Lavoie is a good start.

Still only think this is a TDL trade, and only if the Isles are out of the playoff picture (or if they swing a deal for another RHD? Unlikely but not impossible)

Manson got Hellesson…. I expect a similar prospect or a higher pick based on Manson/Chiarot deals

Lavoie is probably in the same ballpark of Edmonton's prospect tier as Helleson was for the Avs - not a top tier guy but right under them. I think he leaves a little to be desired in terms of compete level but I wouldn't be dying if this was the return. If Edmonton wanted retention, I'd push for either the 2nd turning into a 1st or a better prospect, but that's about it.

Agreed with this. Isles will do this at the TDL if they're out of it. If they don't get a replacement (Holl or Poolman or someone like that), they can call up Grant Hutton.
