Not that I think OTT should even make this move, but why would OTT need to add? DeBrincat has a proven five year consistent track record, two 41G seasons, and is only ONE year older than Robertson. While I'm confident Robertson will remain a good player, he's got a much smaller sample size than DeBrincat and DeBrincat is still an RFA, so there's no risk of losing him to FA.

DAL shouldn't have much trouble to sign Robo to that contract, and given his playstyle I'd prefer just keeping him around

Even if Ottawa doesn't need to add, I'd be ready to add. Brannstrom + Pick for example

Based on what? Cat is the far more proven player, cheaper this season and is only 1 year older. I take Cat 9/10 times.

This trade is also pure EA Sports anyways because trading a player away you just acquired looks really really bad from a PR perspective

Agreed that the premise is flawed severely. As for value, Robertson is bigger, younger and more versatile. It's not horribly lopsided, but DeBrincat + a high 2nd/low 1st is probably equal value. Robertson is on the cusp of superstar staus.

Yeah that's just a poor take. Bigger doesn't mean as much as you think. Cat is the far more physical player. Younger is also an obsolete argument since they are 23 and 24 respectively. Neither will be out of their primes in the next 8 years. And lastly in what way Robertson more versatile? No idea how you came to that conclusion

DeBrincat is literally 8th in goals league wide since entering the league in 17/18. Robertson while an excellent young player is just not as good as DeBrincat offensively or defensively

I strongly disagree on the defensive comparison. Robertson is better defensively than DeBrincat and the advanced stats back that up. Size matters over time and the way the body breaks down, ESPECIALLY with the way DeBrincat plays. I'm not using size as a physicality metric with hits, but rather a longevity and sustainability metric, same thing with being a year younger.

The versatility comes from the fact that Robertson plays more of a complete game, whereas DeBrincat is pretty much an offensive threat only.

If you don't see that, we can just agree to disagree and leave it at that, but the stats don't lie.

I'm genuinely curious if you've actually watched DeBrincat or Robertson play because you have it completely bass ackwards on who is good defensively and who is the "offensive threat only."

Last two images don't load, I was going off of relative Corsi GF and GA which favor Robertson and also, eye test... I can't emphasize this enough, I don't think DeBrincat is bad, just think Robertson is better.

I don't have a sub to evolving hockey, so if you can show me Robertson's chart, I will very much subscribe to the model of "will change mind for data"

The last 2 images are JFresh's player cards for each of Cat and Robertson, you can google them yourself.

As for Robertson's Evolving Hockey card

Like don't get me wrong. Both are top end wingers but I definitely give the edge to Cat. Especially considering he did the above on a ****show of a Chicago team last year

See, I'd still take Robertson over DeBrincat personally, but you proved the point that a one for one in this imaginary scenario, if not Dallas potentially even being the team to add ever so slightly (as we both agree the concept is ridiculous in the first place, as neither team would make this trade) would be fair and Ottawa would not need to add.

I don't think Ottawa would need to add and also in real life trades like this tend to be 1 for 1 anyways.
At this point Debrincat is the better player but Robertson had a better year.
I do this as Ottawa because I'm worried Debrincat won't want to resign next season and I think we have a good chance of signing Robertson long term.
Also Debrincat gives me the vibe of wanting to stay in America.
