Roberston wants more than that for a max deal.
Thomas, Kyrou, Norris, and Stuztle all got contracts at 8 something this summer, only Norris out of them all has a 30-goal season. Roberston got 40 which puts him in a different class.
Stars have two options 3 x7 or you are probably having to go to 10 for an 8-year deal.

True, I was kind of lowballing here but the stars in this situation still have 1.5 million in cap to work with so they could go up to 10 by getting rid of Suter, or to something like 9 for maybe a 5 year deal if 10 feels rich.

Easy no from Vancouver. Don't think anyone will give you that.

I think the best option for the player and team is a 3 x 7 bridge deal, stars can handle that, and then in 3 years the cap goes up, and stars have other bad contracts off the books. The fact that he hasn't singed a deal like this scares me if i'm Dallas, cause it says to me that he knows he had a special year and doesn't really think he can be a 40-goal scorer again and won't be able to a big second contract.
Jeff Skinner had a 40 goal season then a 9 x8 deal, and that did not age well, stars don't want to have the same issues as they do with Benn and Seguin now.

Especially with the situation Dallas is currently in I wouldn't expect full value for any trade they make to clear cap. Honestly no one is taking Suter for free let alone giving anything to get to him. He's 37 on a 35+ contract and a flat out pain in the ass as a teammate.

Why would Vancouver make this deal? Trading futures for an old LHD which is position of strength for us
