Florida doesn’t want Bailey. Soucy won’t sign for that little, Salo is their 3rd pair LHD man and he’s really good, and nobody in NY wants Lyon as backup. Skarek is heir apparent to the backup spot.

Also isles don’t need Connor Brown with Holmstrom and Dufour at or near NHL ready. That’s not even accounting for Raty.

He always looks good in camp and in the preseason. AHL team is kind of weak tho.

i’m not sure I Love that Meier trade. both prospects are set up guys and sharks have a bunch of set up guys in our prospect pool.
would you consider
Dufour
Holmstrom
23 1st
24 2nd
we can take back Bailey but he would be more a cap dump than a valuable piece. you could always trade him to another team for some return as welll.

-Martin's deal is easily buried in the AHL - Isles did it a few years ago with a similar player in Eric Boulton, letting him ride out the last few years of his deal as a mentor in the AHL with occasional NHL call-ups. Could see MM getting the same type of golden parachute if he's open to it - even with Torts in the room, I can't see any teams really giving up a 5th for him or Cal Clutterbuck.

-Deal doesn't make a ton of sense for the Sharks unless they *need* to move Meier. There's also too many moving parts - Koivula is a depth guy with minimal value, and the Josh Bailey part of the deal makes it needlessly complex. If you want Bailey's contract off the books for 2023-24, buy him out next June - it's a $2.667M dead cap charge for 23-24, and $1.17M for 24-25.

A Meier deal should be modeled off the Kevin Fiala trade from this summer - a strong prospect and a 1st, and I'd argue a third asset would be fine (surprised Minnesota didn't get one). Isles could offer one of Holmstrom/Dufour, the 2023 1st, and something else for Meier's RFA rights (thinking a 2nd or a prospect in the Sam Bolduc/Isaiah George/Ruslan Iskhakhov B-tier). Again, this is only if Mike Grier feels like he needs to move Meier's deal for whatever reasons - personally, I think he's of the right age to keep around the Sharks for at least a couple more years before moving on from him.

I don't know, both of those prospects are showing really well and both have good size, this only would happen if Meier wasn't willing to sign long term with us.

I think Dufour is was over hyped. People think that after the year he had he is some top prospect but on reality he was playing in a boys league with no defense. I’m not sold on him at all.

True, but a high level guy needs to look like a men among boys and the kids he is playing against where his age or 1-2 year younger, but his numbers were pretty fantastic. and same could be said about Coe this year and we are pretty high on him!

this year in the AHL will be a better test.
