I think Holl's a small cap dump at this point.

IF Benn is the 7th Dman, I would hate to playing the 8th guy.....whoever he is in case of injuries. But as you suggest, Engvall and Holl might be traded. Leafs would really have to those 1m and below forwards play above their pay level.

Rather trade kerfoot than hurt our team depth. Losing 1 player or 2.. the choice is simple. Our blue line depth is already very thin.

Have to disagree. Tavares is getting 11m a year. For reference if im not mistaken only 3 forwards are making more than that (mcdavid matthews panarin) and one more signed an extension that will pay him more than 11m a year (mackinnon). That means JT is payed like a top 5 forward yet hes obviously nowhere close to that. Hes on the wrong side of 30, hes had injury troubles recently and hes slowed down to the point where he may have to switch to a W that takes FOs. He still has 3 years left and it looks like its only downhill from here. How quickly does he decline? Nobody knows. But theres certainly the potential there for that to become a real anchor of a contract in the next couple of years. Imho at best hes significantly overpaid moving forward and at worst its the worst contract in the league next summer.

The first part of your response just suggests he's overpaid or guys are underpaid, not that he has an albatross contract.

I doubt he'll be the worst contract by next summer but even if he was he would only have 2 years left. The way I look at it is that he's still an 8m player at the very least based off his production, by the time he's in the final year even if he's only a 5m player, his contract wouldn't be an albatross contract since there's no term to it, and with retention he would be movable. If he's a 3m player with an aav of 11m, that contract will be an anchor but hardly since it would only be a year.

He's never been a player that relied on his speed to score though, so while he probably does become less and less effective over the rest of his contract, it doesn't mean he will fall off completely. He has become slower but he was suffering from body aches all season long last year, but despite his line struggling as well, he still put up close to a PPG. He's had a healthy off-season this year, so we will see how slow he is now, once he's back from injury.

Original thread got deleted lol, but figured might as well send my response since I already wrote it out.

I do think it's a possibility, that Engvall gets moved (not for a 4rh though) if both Robertson and Malgin prove they can produce, and the Pk is fine without him. I don't see Holl getting moved though without a RH replacement or Mete proving he's a full time NHLer.

Moving Holl and Engvall destroys the team depth, moving kerfoot alone means the team depth stays intact. And 2mil or 2.25 cap hits dont get you there, 3.5mil does.

Benn, Clifford are short term fill ins, but almost every ready now option currently in minors are exposed to waivers (Gaudette, Anderson, Malgin, Kalgren, Mete, etc....) . I honestly dont think Steeves, Abrueze or any of the youngsters not named Robertson are ready.
