Why I dont see a chycrun trade working

Its all about the cap

The leafs have the following players making 4 million or more

Their "starter" in Matt Murray (while I and many struggle to grasp the logic of that decision it's been made"

Brodie and Rielly:The 2 clear top 3 dmen they have

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares The core 4 up front

Muzzin - the other guy who was a top 3 defenseman this time last year, but is on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a bad (ended decent though) year that also had injury issues

As the leafs are already over the cap (at it with injuries) one of the above has to go the other way. Assuming Brodie/Rielly make no sense as it's to lateral and they aren't moving their "starting" goalie, or a core 4 forward, it has to be Muzzin and he has an NMC/NTC. So unless muzzin waives or a 3 way trade I just don't see it

Chycrun isn't worth much as an rhd and leafs have too many lhd as is.

Yeah with Brodie on the right as is, I don't think they'd go out of their way to get another left shot d, even if he can play the right.

Chychrun can play the right. Just not all that well. Which makes giving up assets for him pointless. LA should be a team interested.

I don't think Leafs will land Chychrun but Murray being the starter which he isn't yet, doesn't have much to do with it.

I don't think think there is a fit for Chychrun in the Leafs but it would be funny if Dubas traded Brodie for Chychrun, in something like Sandin+Brodie for Chychrun+Mayo. He's probably trying to convince teams to take Kerfoot though, since he's so versatile that he can even play defense.

Brodie's and Muzzin's NTC just eliminate any trade for the "unnecessary" Chychrun.
