There's absolutely zero chance Arizona retains on Chychrun

Arizona easily declines, a package for Chychrun starts with Pinto and more. The package you have is what it would cost to dump Zaitsev to another team

Why not?

Arizona taking on salary (Zaitsev + retention) doesn't mean a thing because they're going to be under or just above the floor either way. If this is what it takes to get their desired package they would be stupid not to.

Are you actually insane?

Ridly Grieg is a top prospect. It would cost a bit more than a 2nd to dump Zaitsev.

That is a hefty price to pay. Zaitsev has only a year left on his contract and most likely the $2 bonus is paid when you this suggested deal transpires. With Chabot and Sanderson as 1 and 2 on the left side paying this much for a natural left D puts future years in peril with all those assets going the other way. There is a good chance that JBD, Guenette or Thompson are able to step by then.
Although Chychrun has a great contract Ottawa can use that money as wiggle room to extend DeBrincat, Sanderson and Pinot +.

Never heard of him, he is a C level prospect at best. The package you have is what it could take to dump Zaitsev's contract unfortunately

Lol. Sounds like you’re a casual then. He’s our 2nd best prospect

Why not? Because any given team only has a maximum of 3 retention slots. The Coyotes have already locked themselves into only having 2 slots for the next 5 years. Your proposal suggests they put themselves down to 1 slot for the next 3. When you are rebuilding it is very important to be able to retain on players to make cap work for buying teams. Chychrun is already 3-4M underpaid too. You are asking for discount on a bargain deal

If you've never heard of Grieg you shouldn't publicize your hockey opinions lol.

My hockey character lives for these takes! tears of joy

Why human beings keep making statements about things they have no idea about is beyond me

Remove Greig, add Brannstrom and I would consider. If not, I'm wishing Arizona's the best to find the best possible return elsewhere

Don't need Zaitsev to be part of it, I would just send him to the AHL.

2023 1st round pick (OTT)
Ostapchuk or Jarventie
Brannstrom
2024 2nd round pick (WSH)

Exactly. And yeah, the smart thing would be to pay Zaitsev's bonus and then he becomes a 2.5 AAV contract for just one season, which would be a very small dump and not a Greig + Ostapchuk + 1st + 2nd cost to dump him!!! tears of joy

Imagine if that poster really thought that lol
