I think its an overpayment and no need to include Knies

The below should get it done

Kerfoot, Alexander
Muzzin, Jake
Robertson, Nicholas
2023 1st round pick (TOR)

So you expect AZ to give up the best player and take 2 cap dumps for one of the best value contracts in the league? 🙄

Arizona is doing the Leafs a ton of favors here and there just isn't enough here for the Coyotes to accept the deal.

-Muzzin doesn't waive his NTC to leave Toronto, but even pretending he does: what value does a 33 year old with 2x$5.625M left on their deal have to a rebuilding Arizona team?

-Holl is a 30 year old pending UFA RHD - why is he someone that the Coyotes would want when he's just likely to walk at the end of the year?

The Coyotes want a prospect, a younger roster player, and a 1st. I see all 3 of those things in here, sure, but I also see an extra $7.625M heading to the desert and only a 2024 2nd accompanying it. I just don't see it being a deal that lines up - Toronto has the horses to make the deal if there's no salary cap, sure - but they *have* to move significant cap if they want to absorb Chych's $4.6M and that's when the cost gets too expensive to justify the move.

Muzzin is a very good defensive D (arguably better than Chychrun) and only has $2M this year and $4M next year owed in actual salary with a $5.6M cap hit. So that is value for a team that is playing in an arena with a max capacity of 5,000.

Holl I agree should not be part of this deal however he could be moved for a pick at the deadline so he would not walk away for nothing

and last part I agree the cost is to high but what ARI wants is not necessarily what they will get

Muzzin Gives them a $.5.6M cap hit with a $2M salary this year Very valuable to them with their current arena situation.

Kerfoot also $3.5M cap hit and only $750K in salary again very valuable

And both can be moved at the deadline for picks

couple counters:

firstly, if Muzzin is a better D than Chych, why even make the trade? Toronto is in "win-now" mode, so they shouldn't care about whether their LD2 is the 33 year old Jake Muzzin with 2x$5.625M or the 23 year old Jakub Chychurn with 3x$4.6M left. If Muzzin gives you a better chance to win the Cup, you ride with him, full stop.

The cap hit argument falls flat for me, though - Arizona is already above the cap floor this season so it's irrelevant, and they've shown in the past few years they're more than happy eating bad contracts to get to the floor if it also nets them a future asset (just this summer, they got a pair of 2nds and pair of 3rds plus an advantageous 1st round pick swap to eat 2x$5.7M of Zack Kassian & Patrik Nemeth). The names and the talent level attached to the contracts don't matter, it's all about what bonuses come with those cap hits. So if you're including Jake Muzzin in a Chychurn trade, you have to assume that this is how Bill Armstrong is going to look at him - not as a good player, but as a line item on his payroll.

Muzzin and kerfoot are cap dumps in this market. It will take a first to move muzzin. So you think a B- prospect gets you chychrun? Gonna need to add a lot more than that. Knies, muzzin, first, second is closer but gets beat
