Way too much for a backup

With Price most likely never coming back, Jake Allen will be the Starter and considering how he has played. He deserves it.

Slight overpayment, but they need a goalie.

Fits with the rebuild and like Martin St-Louis said "You need guys that'll plant the seeds for the future knowing they'll never be able to take a break in the shade", he's a good veteran and it was even caught during a preseason game! Once he made his 2 period appearance he was filmed on the bench giving tips to half of the rookie defenders fighting for a spot. Great guy and that basically confirms what everyone already knew, Price's done. Allen's our starter for the rebuild and the door will be open for whoever is ready in 2 years.

I mean, they did need to sign this deal, or one like it, because they need a goalie.

It's an extension. By definition they didn't need to sign it.
