Doubt the Leafs are going to help you here. It's fairly obvious why Ottawa would be trading for their 3rd back and I don't think the Leafs would want any part of bringing Robertson to Ottawa.

Is it fairly obvious? Offer sheets rarely happen and Ottawa would not be expected to sign Robertson given our top 6 is full.

Ok then, what other reason could possibly exist for Ottawa wanting to trade a 2nd round pick for a 3rd round pick outside of the draft time of year? Think of it this way, when was the last time a pick for a pick trade was made that wasn't at the draft itself?

You are right in that offer sheets rarely happen however its the only reason that can exist for why Ottawa would want to make this trade at this time of year. A blind homeless man on the street who is only semi-aware of the NHL rules could see this coming.

I mean honestly, as good as Dobson is, it would probably be worth it for the islanders but it would never happen

It would make the isles offense even at even strength even worse. Jason Robertson is the only winger I’d consider trading Dobson for.

No it wouldnt. Devrincat will need a new deal next year and who knows if hes interested in signing long term. Plus after what debrincat just went for (7, 39, and a 3rd) dobber is worth significantly more than that.

You have no cap left for Stützle’s, Zub’s, and Sanderson’s next contracts, or a potential D upgrade to fix the top 4 or potentially add at the deadline.

As it is you’re going to have a timing problem with Giroux’s second and third years with the young RFA’s next contracts.

If DeBrincat or Robertson (doubtful but really nice) is the future you’re going to have to decide which one of Batherson, Stützle, Norris, Tkachuk, or Giroux is out the door. There’s too many high cap guys and the sens need to even out their roster. Or pray that league min and ELC defence corps can over-perform.

We can fit everyone after trading Joseph. I didn’t actually add much cap.
