Are the Leafs better off under Leafsonfire or the status quo IRL
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs

Description Leafsonfire is my alter ego in a GM game on discord.
When I joined the GM game, the Ottawa Senators were not available.
So, I chose the Leafs :D
These are the moves I've made as Leafsonfire so far.
1. I asked the Arizona Coyotes which draft pick they want from the Nick Ritchie trade.
They chose the 2023 3rd.
2. On September 21st, the Vancouver Canucks offered me either their 2nd + their 3rd in 2023 or their 1st in 2024 for Rasmus Sandin's signing rights.
I took their 2024 1st for Sandin.
Vancouver never asked for any lottery protection or conditions on their 2024 1st.
On September 22nd, the Montreal Canadiens offersheeted Sandin at 4.2 million x 3.
On September 23rd, Vancouver matched the offersheet.
This all happened before Sandin was signed IRL on September 29th.
3. On the day I traded Sandin to Vancouver, the Boston Bruins wanted to get rid of their cap dumps and some depth players.
I offered Ottawa's 7th round pick in 2024 for Connor Clifton if Boston retained half his salary.
They countered with Clifton for future considerations as long as they didn't have to retain salary.
I accepted their counteroffer.
4. I maintained part of the status quo by not placing anybody on waivers just yet.
5. I placed anybody that is waivers-exempt in the minors.
6. I placed Engvall on IR while placing Tavares, Liljegren, Benn and Dahlstrom on LTIR.
7. I made Victor Mete, Denis Malgin and Mac Hollowell my healthy scratches.
8. I made Ilya Samsonov my starting goalie and Matt Murray my backup.
9. I paired Reilly with Brodie, Muzzin with Holl, and Giordano with Clifton.
10. My 4th line is Clifford, Gaudette and Anderson.
3rd line is Simmonds, Kampf and NAK.
2nd line is Jarnkrok, Kerfoot and Nylander.
1st line is Bunting, Matthews and Marner.
11. I placed Bunting, Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Reilly on the first power play unit.
12. I placed Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, Gaudette, Anderson and Giordano on the second power play unit.
13. I placed Kampf, Marner, Giordano and Brodie on the first penalty killing unit.
14. I placed Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, Muzzin and Holl on the second penalty killing unit.
Trades 1.
2025 2nd round pick (TOR) 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
2.
2024 1st round pick (VAN)

Well your first problem is that Tavares won't be eligible for LTIR. He's only expected to miss the first week of the season and would need to miss 24 days from the start of the regular season in order to be LTIR eligible.
Other than that, your question is basically are the Leafs better off having Sandin or Clifton and the answer to that should be obvious to everyone.

It should be a question of either Sandin or Clifton + Vancouver's 1st in 2024.
Not just Sandin or Clifton.

A key difference is that I have Vancouver's 1st round pick for 2024.
