Ottawa counters with Zaitsev and Hamonic for Karlsson (50% retention) and Knyzhov. They aren’t giving up anything of value for him. Pretending they will is ridiculous.

San Jose isn’t retaining over $20 mil for nothing for their best defenseman and taking a cap dump back

A two time Norris winner who still scored at a .70 ppg pace last year with all that retention is no where near a cap dump. Get real

Dude. He has five more years left and is consistently hurt. You shouldn’t be telling anyone to get real lmao. I wouldn’t take him at 50% retention for free lmao.

PK Subban won the Norris Trophy, and now he’s retired. Karlsson’s best days r behind him.

Dude…. Burns at 33% retained got San Jose a third, a goalie prospect and a fourth liner. Burns is way better than Karlsson and he’s on a way better deal. Give me a ****ing break.

Edited for Typo***

Subban hasn’t done anything in his career in 5 years. Not close to the same comparison

Karlsson last won the Norris in 2015. Subban in 2013. Karlsson is consistently hurt and couldn’t guard ur mother.

Never thought I’d say this but I’d rather have Holl at 2 mill then Hamonic at 1.75. 🤣🤣🤣 Unless there’s a double retention I want nothing to do with Hamonic.

Yeah but I'd easily pay a 2nd and a 4th to get rid of Zaitsev and Gambrell (never understood why Dorion extended him, made no sense back then, makes even less sense now)

I'd take Erik Karlsson at 6.9 AAV for future considerations easily

Ur not dumping Zaitsev tho. Ur taking on Karlsson. Ur looking at this all wrong. Karlsson’s contract is so bad u would have to retain and take back salary for FREE. The only savings ur getting r in term.

I said I would... that word is crucial to understand my statement

Remove Zaitsev and I would gladly give up 2nd + 4th + Gambrell for Erik Karlsson at 6.9 AAV x 5 years

I’m aware of what you would do. I’m telling u it’s a bad idea from a cap management perspective.

At 6.9? I don't know, removing Zaitsev's 4.5, it seems doable.

It works for this year for sure and it would work in 2024-25 when the cap goes up but the problem really is 2023-24

This roster would be over the cap by 2M$. And I have paid Zub 4.5 and Pinto 3.0. DeBrincat 9.0

DeBrincat, Alex
$9,000,000
Stützle, Tim
$8,350,000
Batherson, Drake
$4,975,000
Tkachuk, Brady
$8,205,714
Norris, Joshua
$7,950,000
Giroux, Claude
$6,500,000
Greig, Ridly
$863,333
Pinto, Shane
$3,000,000
Joseph, Mathieu
$2,950,000
Crookshank, Angus
$838,333
Kastelic, Mark
$1,000,000
Kelly, Parker
$762,500

Chabot, Thomas
$8,000,000
Zub, Artem
$4,500,000
Sanderson, Jake
$925,000
Karlsson, Erik
$7,000,000
Brännström, Erik
$1,000,000
Bernard-Docker, Jacob
$1,000,000

Forsberg, Anton
$2,750,000
Hellberg, Magnus
$1,000,000

Because of that 2023-24 season, Sens can't afford Karlsson. I'd rather be able to keep Zub and DeBrincat... well, depending on what we could get for DeBrincat

First off it would never work cap wise even if u took Zaitsev. And if San Jose could get out of half that contract at the price of taking Zaitsev for two years…. They would have to take it. Frees up a lot of money long term.
