Because this doesn’t make Ottawa better and it’s not fair value either. It’s not worth it to get rid of Zaitsev if ur taking Armia back for an extra year. Bear MIGHT be worth a second, but Engvall is worth like a fourth.

Why doesn't this make Ottawa better? Do Bear or Engvall have negative value and are ECHL players or am I missing something?

They aren’t worth second round picks lol. Bear is a third pair guy, Engvall is a fourth liner, and Armia’s deal is worse than Zaitsev’s….

Armia can bounce back, not Zaitsev
I don’t think MTL does that

I do agree neither are worth 2nds BUT I get why he did that. You almost have to overpay on here, especially when anything Leafs is involved.

Now with that said, I do disagree Engvall is a 4th liner. He’s not a top 6 but he has shown he’s very good bottom 6 and can play PP And PK. Him and Mickey were huge for our PK last year.

Still not worth a 2nd but I’d say contenders 3rd or middle of the pack 4th. I just don’t see why Leaf’s would move Engvall tbh.

Ethan Bear = 3rd round pick at best.

Pierre Engval = 5th round pick at best.

Joel Armia > Zaitsev+4th round pick, Sorry but it would cost at least a 2nd round pick for any sane GM to take on Zaitsev the dude sucks.

I truly think a second for Engvall is an overpay. I am expecting him to regress this year. I like the guy. Always have. Made fun of the “Engvall anywhere for picks “ trades from one year ago. If I were the Leafs I accept this trade.

Engvall is worth a late 3rd to mid fourth imo nothing more though, he is a versatile 6’5 guy who can PK & work on a PP

tears of joy

OP clearly doesn't know about Armia's contract

This is like the worst way to use their remaining cap space for next season. Useless to get rid of Zaitsev if it is to get an even more useless player with a 3.4 cap hit (with one more year to boot)

They need to get rid of Zaitsev's full cap hit to afford Zub, DeBrincat and Pinto raises.

I still don't understand how this makes the Sens worse.

So? What i'm saying is that Armia is better than Zaitsev and a 4th round pick by a country mile. You'd need to attach a 2nd round pick just to move Zaitsev he has negative value and a 4th round pick on top isn't getting the job done.

You want the sens to pay a premium to add two depth guys, and a fourth to take on Joel Armia. It doesn’t fix the real issues for Ottawa on d, and it’s bad asset management.

Engvall would be Ottawa’s 9th best forward in a best case scenario. Bear is no more then a third pair RHD, and Armia is a fourth liner getting paid twice what he’s worth. They r making their cap situation worse, and giving up draft picks that could return real value in exchange for guys who r at best average. Give me a break.

Armia has negative value too. He’s worth about half his AAV which is barely lower than Zaitsev. At the end of the day the pick would be going to Ottawa, not Montreal. Term is the deciding factor here.

I'm looking at the quality of player Armia > Zaitsev+4th round pick. Not that Armia is overpaid with more term.
