If he gets more offensive freedom under Lambert this could be a very, very good value contract when the cap jumps.

However, it's a bit rich if that's not the case. He was like the fourth best Islanders player last year behind Sorokin, Pelech and Nelson. Could add Dobson as well.

It's a rising cap environment. This deal is perfectly reasonable. Barzal's output has been limited by what his coaches have asked him to do and he is now a more well rounded player as a result of it. Barzal gets his security. Isles lock up their 1C. He doesn't become Tavares 2.0

It's a win-win all around

I really like his physicality. I think he and Dobson need more time together to mesh as a pairing but they should be a perfect fit for each other. Romanov said he worked on his offensive skills during the offseason but he hasn't gotten any preseason points yet. He is miles better than what we dealt with last year at LD2/LD3 (Chara/Greene)

He is one of the BEST players in transition and controlled entries. He just needs a better sniper on his wing. Only McDavid and Marchand setup more shots than Barzal. He is in elite company. Hopefully Walhstrom evolves into that guy.
