What I would do

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 4, 2022
Published: Oct. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Line combos can be adjusted 400 different ways. I think trading for and extending Kane could be a great path moving forward for both New York and Chicago. Getting a super star in Kane really helps this team a lot.

Thoughts?

Two firsts, Bellows, Bolduc and Bailey should be enough. Also asking for those picks unprotected is ridiculous. Kane is 34 and expiring.

He got extended 7m x 5 years for this trade to happen. How about top 3 protected on both picks?

That's what a guy like Kane will get. Look at Letang. Malking. Those type of guys. They get a lot of years and lower cap than they should get. Probably buy out the last 2 years or LTIR him. Kane is a generational talent. You pay a premium for that and in this case it's with extra years and not AAV.

It's an enticing offer. I'm a big Bailey fan so I think that's fine. Not sure if Bolduc is the kind of prospect Hawks want. Martin and Bellows are toss ins I guess. Two protected firsts would be nice. I don't think giving Kane 5 years is that ridiculous. He's never injured and hasn't made the playoffs in like 5 years so he doesn't have that many miles on his legs. His style of play is that of someone who can play at a high level through his late 30s.

I think overall I do like the trade but it hurts my heart.

This is not an enticing offer at all. The 2 firsts are expected in a Kane trade especially with an extension. That's the only real value going back to the hawks. Martin is a cap dump. Bellows is nothing. Bolduc is fine but the hawks would want a much better prospect that plays forward not defense. Bailey, no matter how much you like him, doesn't have any value at all to the hawks. He'd be a ufa and old long before the hawks are any good. They'd want a first just to take his and martins cap hit.

It's the Islanders. These two first could be anywhere. They could miss the playoffs, win the lottery and be upgraded 10 spots. Lot of ifs I know but could happen. I think if Kane is traded at the deadline, we're gonna see another lower than expected return like we did for Debrincat. You can call it Davidson getting fleeced but it's what happened and I'm just being realistic here. We're not gonna get the world for Kane like we think. I'm just preparing myself now for more disappointment. I also even said that Bolduc is not the prospect the Hawks want and the others are toss ins.

Oh I whole heartedly expect to be disappointed with the return for Kane. But I reply on this site expected fair value. With that said 5 years of the greatest American player ever is worth a lot more than a couple firsts. You say they could miss the playoffs but if that's close to happening then Kane isn't waiving.
