Toronto Trade

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 4, 2022
Published: Oct. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
New York upgrades their top 9 and get a 1st round pick. But they also down grade a top 4 rhd for a top 6 rhd.

Toronto loses a very versatile top 9 forward and a 1st round pick, but they solve their cap and upgrade their RD.

The cap works for both team.

The Isles would do that trade in a heartbeat but I do not think Toronto will. Too many first round picks moving out the door for Toronto the past four years.

Leafs might have to move Kerfoot for cap reasons, for very little return, though Leafs might need Kerfoot at centre with Tavares out for few weeks. But the exchange of the picks may be too much for the Leafs to swallow
Kerfoot and Holl for Mayfield....now that could be a deal. Good thought on the trade though.

Ya I don't love the idea of moving Kerfoot. I can tell Leafs management don't love the idea either. But it might need to be what happens!

For what reason exactly? At the TDL mayfield can get a 1st on his own without moving a 2nd and without taking on 5.5m especially when youre just giving a conference opponent a get out of cap hell free card

Kerfoot at the TDL would get a nice package himself. He would easily get the Jarnkrok treatment from last year. Maybe even more.

Yeah but he loses a ton of value bc hes needed to get out of a cap crunch (see bjorkstrand). Also the isles dont need/want him at all so he may have value to a different team but we arent paying for that. Theres also the issue that if the isles take on holl and kerfoot and move mayfield even if they send down ross and his 1.1m theyd still need to send someone else down and go with a 22 man roster. Which isnt horrible at all just not something we should be doing at all for kerfoot and holl.

see bjorkstrand

Ok What the Bjorkstrand trade was, isn’t a fair thing to point at, That was a GM that was desperate & The Leafs really aren’t. Also that trade is not Market Value that was probably one of the dumbest moves possible. This year we’ve seen a 1st get you 2 year of Debrincat still as an RFA but 4 years of Bjorkstrand wasn’t worth a 1st?. That’s not setting the Market they are both fleeces in their own right. Not disagreeing with your other points but everytime someone says “see Bjorkstrand” It’s an honest Joke to believe that’s the value of guys cause it’s not

Can we both agree that bjorkstrand is worth more than a 3rd and a 4th? I think we can. But it seems like you completely missed the point. I didnt bring the bjorkstrand trade here to say "since he got a 3rd and a 4th kerfoot has to get less" im not saying that. What i am saying is that if you need to clear cap your players will be worth a fraction of what they would be worth otherwise. Same thing with kerfoot hes a player that on an arizona team at the TDL should get a similar package that jarnkrok got but hes not. Hes on a cap strapped team that is kinda desperate to move cap out so max he'll be worth is a mid round pick. Thats just how the nhl is nowadays, cap space is really valueable.
(As for debrincat not really sure why he was brought in to this thread clarification would be appreciated).
