Timo Trade at Deadline

Created by: AStovetop
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 5, 2022
Published: Oct. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- This would be a scenario in which at the deadline SJS are out, WPG is in or around a wildcard, NYR are in safe playoff position looking to add.
- Timo continues his growth and is scoring around or above a point per game, Wheeler is having a solid season but WPG is looking to move on and so is he, Kakko is still struggling to find that next step.
- Timo and Bones add offensive depth for WPG and Timo is a prospective replacement for a 1st line winger as Wheeler ages and as tension grows between him and the club.
- The condition of a 2+ year extension ensures that the 2nd doesn't upgrade to a 1st if Timo just signs the QO and dips the next year as a UFA
- WPG doest want to give up a 2023 in the event they miss the playoffs and because of draft depth
- SJS throw in a late round pick as WPG is very short on those in the 2023 draft
- SJS Trade Wheeler with 50% retained giving the Rangers (who are in win now mode) two years of a veteran winger scoring at a 55-PGP pace for two years over Kakko who they likely can't wait for to produce while making a playoff run
- Reaves is more of something to throw in to get them under the cap (could be replaced by others)
- Along with Kakko SJS gets the 2023 2nd with a condition of it upgrading to a 1st if the Rangers (who already have two firsts in the draft) get to the Conference Finals

If the Jets are battling for a wildcard spot, they should not trade their 1st round pick. Being that low suggests that a re-tool or re-build is right around the corner and they will need that pick.

Blake Wheeler isn't waiving to San Jose only to be dealt to the Rangers.

Rangers don't need C's and RW's, So why would they've any interest in Wheeler?

Picks can no longer be made conditional on a player re-signing and Winnipeg should not under any circumstances consider moving their first in the next few years for anything short of a super star with term.

How do the Rangers not need RWs?

Blake Wheeler sucks defensively and was supposedly terrible last season. He still finished with 60 points in 65 games. The offence still should be there. Rangers could use at least one more winger (RW more preferable)

Speculate all you want but first NYR ain't doing that, Kakko is already a better all-around hockey player, and he is young.
Secondly that trade would make it impossible to resign Laffy and Miller. So this is an obvious double no for NYR
