I think something along the line of Garland+ for Andersson would benefit both teams more

I can't see the Canucks trading Horvat especially to the Flames.

canucks probably won't trade their captains to a rival, but they should 100% do this trade
rasmus andersson is a bona fide top 2 defender

I would imagine if Horvat would sign for 6.5x8, he would be signed in Vancouver

I mean if Horvat was asking for too much, Andersson is fine. Still an unlikely scenario

Horvat extended 6.5 x 8 as part of the trade. I wrote that in the description.

UFA's dont get traded pre-signed, there is absolutely zero advantage to the acquiring team to pay premium for the extension when they can get the exact same term post trade

happens from time to time. Or at least a trade is made knowing that a signing will happen. See Seth Jones and Mark Stone for example. It is super rare though.

Neither of those players were traded pre-extended

I said "Or at least a trade is made knowing that a signing will happen."

In both cases the team acquiring knew they were going to extend and sign them and so did the player.

Sure but that didn't change the value of the player.

In Seth Jones cases it 1000000% did. No way they gave all that up for 1 year rental.

Jones was traded with a full season prior. Stone wasn't.

If Bo can be had for 8 x 6.5M, he probably stays in Vancouver. Now if the Canucks aren't willing to make the type of commitment to Bo that another team is potentially willing to do (Calgary in this case), this isn't an unreasonable swap. Now I have to disappoint Canucks fans who see Andersson as a potential Quinn Hughes partner, cause NEWS FLASH! Andersson isn't a shutdown defenseman. He's the offensive conscience on Calgary's top pairing alongside Hanifin. A big part of his game is pinching at the points in the offensive zone, so that element could somewhat conflict with Hughes's game. I would argue that Andersson is probably better suited to play with a guy like Ekman-Larsson, which I think is still very much a solid fit
