I love this deal, especially when compared to the Barzal deal from yesterday.

I'm sure Dallas would have loved to have locked him down for more than four years, but by the time they have to resign him, the cap will be a lot larger.

actually robertson is the one who wanted long term and dallas wanted the bridge from the sounds of the reports

Great contract imo! The only thing I don't like about this is it's only 4 years.

$7 million too much, he has only scored 1 regular season career goal.

Best contracts? It's a hefty bridge. At first glance I thought it was right to ufa. But it seems more like the Tkachuk contract. Walking papers in 4 years.

Robertson is probably a 9+ million dollar player on a 6 year deal.
4 years is a long time to get a player at a discount.. Especially considering the holdout.
Hardly even a bridge at 4 years.

100% a bridge. Ufa years cost far more than rfa years. Should have moved doby and paid him 10 x 8. Unless you don't think he can continue to grow.

Gonna have to disagree.
You're saving over 2m a year for 4 years vs the contract you're suggesting.
They'd probably be able to sign him for 11x8 afterwards.

Why it wasn't Nil ownership doesn't want to give younger players big long term deals out of ELC'S

No, my boss doesn't hang over my shoulder and tell me how to do my job. If your boss has to you might want to start looking for another job.

Yes.

Good for you most bosses have set parameters. There's a big difference between micromanaged as your suggesting Nil has been subject to and working within his bosses parameters.

No they don't. The parameter and scope of Nill's job includes signing players. He is being micromanaged if this is the case. In 4 years when Robertson wants 17m or he signs a 1 year and walks it's going to be on Nill. You can't fire the owner.

Telling a gm what term to sign their franchise player to is about as micro managed as a gm can be.

Yes exactly, so the owner runs the team. Not the manager who is handcuffed from doing the most basic duty of a gm.

Which comes full circle to my original comment. Nill isn't in charge. Glad we cleared that up.

Bad contract that Dallas will regret. It sets Robertson up perfectly to get a huge raise after escrow is paid off. Additionally, a third contract at 8 years will take Robertson through his 30s. Maybe with his skating, they would have been better buying up his entire prime and cutting bait before a third contract.

He will cost 12-14 million on an 8 year term that will run through his 30s, when they likely could have bought up a few UFA year by going up to 10 or 11 on a contract that runs through his entire prime and cost controls him against the big jump we will see in the cap.

They f*cked up so bad by not signing him to 8 years. You trade anyone not names Oettenger or Heiskanen to make that work. On pace for 70 goals, 133 points 21 games into the season. Gonna make like 15mil at the end of this vs the 9mil ish they could have had him for those 4 years

Add Hintz to that list of players the stars shouldn’t trade
