I know. They want a top D-man, but don't want to give up anything.

As a Leafs fan I say no to this trade. Marner is an elite talent who scored 60+ points in his rookie season and he's 20! Plus you want Kapanen, Nielsen and picks. The value just isn't their for me. Honestly I don't think i would even do sought for mariner straight or up or even if LA added picks. So the answer is no.

Wow. You wouldn't do Doughty for Marner straight up and the Kings have to add picks. Interesting!

I think what leafs fans wants to do is to keep all their young guys as well as get an elite D for 2nd Rounders. YOU CANT HAVE IT ALL!!

Is two years of Doughty worth 7+ worth Marner? Especially on a young team

I know this is a cardinal sin to say but i think doughty is a tad overrated. Id take Marner or Nylander over him any day. and I know you're gonna say "well you're never going to get an elite d man then." Well if it costs one of Marner, Matthews or Nylander I'd rather keep our patchwork defence

You assume 7 years. If marner is THAT good, how do you keep everyone?

I would think putting pucks into the net is the least of the Leafs problem. A HOF RHD right now might just be as valuable Marner and some guys that are a year or two away.

But that is always the quandry. We all value our guys more than the other guys. I get to see Drew 82 games a year. He is an absolute stud!

putting the puck in the net isn't a problem now for the Leafs but why do you think that is? it's because of guys like Marner and Nylander, we can't shoot our self in the foot for a short term fix. Yes Doughty is AMAZING and yes he's in his prime but he only has 2 years left on his deal and his much older than the Leafs core

I'm a big time leaf fan and I've done one of these bringing Doughty to Toronto as well so check it out. Also a kings fan. Marner is untouchable, but Nylander might be available ? Probably asking a bit much from Toronto considering Horton can be on the LTIR and will never play again, but you're right in saying that if the leafs want a guy like Doughty, its going to cost them a couple pieces of their current team.

Thanks! Like I said the trade will not happen, but I like the concept of playing around with it. Drew will probably retire a Kings, just as Marner will most likely retire as a Leaf. Cheers mate!

I can't imagine why any one really thinks this is good day for the Leafs. Doughty is is UFA in the meantime Marner, Kapanen and Nielsen are gone. And what Doughty make really make much difference to the Leafs fortunes.
The Kings have finished out of the playoffs with Doughty, Sure they have won the Cup with Doughty twice, but one of those years the Kings finished eighth so it's not like the Kings have been powerhouses with Doughty.
Can't the Leafs just wait two years and make pitch for Doughty if they want, this way they keep Marner, Kapapen and Nielsen and the two picks.

I know this trade gets a lot of action because of its the Leafs. But would Winnipeg trade Ehlers, Laine and first for two yeasr of Doughty. Or the Sabres trading Reinhart, Risto and a first for two years of Risto, or the Canes trading Aho, Slavin and a first for two years of Doughty. I'm sure the answer would be the same,,,,no way.

    Hey Palhal,

We've talked about this before. I understand where you are coming from, but the Kings not making the playoffs had NOTHING to do with Doughty. He is a difference maker.

You are basically comparing Ehlers' value with Marner's (fair) but what I don't get is saying that Laine is equivilent value to Kapanen and Nielsen... If you want to compare Laine to anyone on Toronto it should be Matthews... You could be saying something completely different but that's not what it looks like to me...
