Why are they losing him for nothing? Contrary to people who have absolutely no insight into the Kings and the camp they've held, Vilardi is NOT going to be put on waivers.

Arvidsson is unsure to start, anyone who has watched the preseason games can say that Vilardi is one of the best players on the ice right now. He solidified not being waived like game 1.

Which means Vilardi is potentially a top-6 start on the Kings opening night.

To start the season, no. Arvidsson is injured and likely out to begin the season. All signs (two preseason games, cuts to the contenders for the same spot, etc) have Vilardi in his role as 2RW next to Moore and Danault. In addition, he's been playing on their 1st PP line each game the Kings have iced mainly their full roster.

After that, the Kings showed last year they have no problems placing high skill level players on the 4th line to learn more of the defensive side of the puck. Kaliyev was there all year. My guess is that Vilardi takes a spot alongside Grundstrom and Lizotte, while Lemieux is a healthy scratch.

My bet is that next year Trevor Moore is not an LA Kings due to outplaying his contract (and the Kings not being able to afford him any more), and that opens up the spot on the 2nd/3rd line for Gabe going forward.

When everyone is healthy, I suspect we'll see a 4th line of Grundstrom-Lizotte-Vilardi.

Why would either team do this tbh? Even if LA were to waive Vilardi, it’s not like we have room for him either. We’d just be trading a defenseman we’d waive for a forward we’d waive and they’d be trading a forward they’d waive for a defenseman they’d have no room for and possibly waive too.
