Cap is barely moving for next season, and with the big jump the year after, players will be looking for big contracts. Its going to be even tighter to stay under the cap next season.

Not sure how much positive value you will get for him given his 4.5 mil cap hit, if any. Anaheim sure as hell isn't paying a 2nd for a 32 year old defenseman on an expiring contract.

4.5 mil is a value contract for a 40+ point dman who can run your powerplay. Werenski, jones, hamilton, nurse, heiskenen, etc. 4.5 is a budget deal

holl is not great when ihe is played too many minutes and against tough comps. as your 3rd pair he is very decent.

Who next season needs an upgrade on PP that is competing for a cup, AND has 4.5 mil for Barrie, AND is willing to give up assets to get him? There's going to be almost no market for the guy, his trade value will be depressed.

Um... they just paid $7M for a similar player. You can't really say Anaheim wouldn't be interested in Barrie next summer when they just proved they wanted that exact player-type a couple of months ago.
