Fantastic deal, Weegar has been fantastic for a while now and has succeeded without Ekblad. Im a giant fan of this, that Tkachuk trade looks better and better

Treliving didn't wait too long to pay his new guys. But that's a great deal imo.

Instantly becomes one of the best contracts in the league hands down.

One of the better defenders in the league. So under-rated

So this seals the deal.

Calgary wins the Tkachuk, or at least doesn’t lose massively.

Calgary's going for it all plus they got a fine AAV! Let's wait for the clauses cause there for sure are some.

Clearly a good signing. That also settles the Tkachuk trade. Great win by CGY.

It's good that Calgary managed to find themselves a new core for the next 7+ years with the cards they had... but is it really good if the youngest of the three turns 29 in January? Time will tell but they are solid contenders for at least 2 seasons before Hanifin and Lindholm expire.

Full trade is now:

Matthew Tkachuk (8x9.5)
Conditional 2025 4th

For

Jonathan Huberdeau (1 x 5.9, 8 x 10.5)
MacKenzie Weegar (1 x 3.25, 8 x 6.25)
Cole Schwindt
Conditional 2025 1st

This was a massive fleece IMO. CGY just extended their window for at least another 5 years.

Florida got a guy in his prime locked up for 8 years. Calgary got 2 guys out of their prime locked for 8 years.

These contracts are why Florida traded them. They didn't want to give out these contracts. I don't get how people don't understand this.

This is around what I would have predicted. Good deal for both sides. Gotta think if all goes well this season, CGY wins this deal...and I had the complete opposite opinion when it happened.

It'll look different when the players are in the back half of their deals, but The Flames could easily win a cup in the meantime.

For sure, but in the now, there window has been extended. That's all you want, is a chance to win the cup, CGY did this

I'm a Weegar fan-- but let's see if he can play in a different system, and produce the same way, before naming one of the best contracts.

I mean he made Ekblad better so I have trust in him. Watched him here in Halifax and he was just as good. Especially with the cap going up I have no problems naming it one of the best in the league.

Makes no sense. Tkachuk is in his prime at 24. How is that close to the same value as a 30 year old winger on a bigger contract?

Weird how the big analytics guy that's against giving older players big contracts thinks this is smart now. I guess it's smart when it's the team you root for lol.
