curiosity killed the cat by fire badly

Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 7, 2022
Published: Oct. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yeah Tkachuk is younger than Huberdeau but the trade isn't even close. Schwindt could even turn out to be a good third liner. Lots of money to resign Hanifin, Lindholm, Toffoli, Kylington. Backup goalie could either Vladar or Wolf. Great youth to build around like Coronato, Pelletier, Zary, Phillips.

I look at that roster and think, "That's a solid team; they'll win a lot of regular season games." But I'm not sold that they'll be able to win four playoff rounds; it just doesn't read that way to me but maybe they'll make it work.

They've replaced most of the offence for Gaudreau and Tkachuk plus upgraded their blueline. I think they have better chances over last season

You absolutely can, and the Flames did just that.

Matt Tkachuk is a really good player, and is young.

But Treliving lost his best winger/player, in Gaudreau, and turned around and traded his 2nd best player for a better winger who is just as good as Gaudreau (Huberdeau), and also fleeced Zito by also getting a legitimate top-four defenseman (Weegar), and a prospect whose tracking to be another NHL player in his own right.

Then managed to sign that better top-six winger and top-four defenseman to long-term contracts.

He won the trade the second he got Huberdeau to sign long-term. He officially won it by a landslide once Weegar re-signed today.

Case closed.

well, not a lot of arguments there., you just explained why you think they won the trade ''right now''. you only know for sure who won a trade a few years in. you wont say the same thing if tkachuk scores 100 point the next few years and huberdeau is a 50 point winger on a 10m contract and weegar becomes a bottom 4 d after a year. you might say its unlikely, sure, but the point is you dont know, and you cant know.

5 years from now the Huberdeau contract could look really bad yes, but if he puts up 90-100 points over the next 4 seasons without a doubt a win, and Weeger won't become a bottom 4dman after a year, ridiculous, you really need to watch him play.

as i said its very unlikely, i guess for some reason i dont pretend to know the future unlike others and somehow it make me sound like the crazy one.
