Second pairing might be a stretch goal for Kovacevic. You'd be better off to have him play 3rd pair to start off.

I think the team prefers a buddy approach with 1 rookie to 1 vet as opposed to having a pair with 2 rookies

I've seen worst ideas.

2 questions:

1. Teams can bust the cap ceiling (10%?) during off season. How close is MTL?

2.How long do you need to keep on your roster a player picked up on waivers before putting him back?

I just wonder if picking him up would block us to make a better waiver claim next week, let say Holl for example...

I don't think there is a minimum on keeping waiver claims. I could be wrong though.

Great questions. Not sure about the salary, but if it's a problem they can just move ahead with sending one of the kids to Laval or waiving a player like Hoffman to see if someone will pick him up or to save 1.1M on his salary by sending him to Laval.

Good call! You win the day!

I'm still wondering how it will affect their capacity to make others claims in the following days...

Once you claim a player off of waivers he is yours so there is no putting him back. However if you send him to the AHL he will have to pass through waivers again but there is no guarantee another team will take him.

Jets beat writer (Ates, The Athletic) on Kovacevic "Perhaps a 7 or 8 NHL D right now, IMO, but the kind who is on the cusp of being a helpful 3RD +PK"

I suspect you can't just put him back on waivers the day after claiming him.

I can't find the information, but I'm pretty sure you need to keep him up in your roster for a while. It's the kind of basic thing negociated in the CBA to prevent too many moves in different cities in a short term for the family and kids.

There isn a minimum you could immediately send him to the minors after claiming him.

Waivers Explained

If you find something that says otherwise please post the link here for me.

While there may be other rules closer to what you describe (couldn't find it), as a Jets fan the one I am looking at is Article 13.22 of the CBA. If the Habs put Kovacevic on waivers and he has 30 days or less on the Habs roster and less than 10 games played, then the Jets can send him directly to the AHL if they are the only ones to put in a claim.

Seriously thank you for the effort you've put to find and share your link (I didnt find it), but I'm sure you can understand I still have my doubts even if "pensionplanpuppets" doesn't say anything about it 🤣

Cool but I'd rather get it right so if you find something that says different let me know.

I thought it was that the original team(Jets) to waive a player has the first chance to claim him and can then send said player(Kovacevic) directly to the minors without having to go through waivers again?

Didn't this happen before with one of Comrie or Dano?

Chevy is the King of the waiver reclaim iirc... 🤣

I thought it was that too before looking at the CBA. Maybe there is some add on that I missed. In any event, I’m looking forward to Chevy being asked about putting kovacevic on waivers.
