Detroit Trade

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 8, 2022
Published: Oct. 8, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Don't know if this would be an option for Winnipeg but my thinking is they could move a LHD to make room for Samberg, Heinola or Stanley. They get a decent middle 6 forward that can play centre. He's pretty decent defensively and can put up 15 - 20 goals.
For Detroit they get a steady defender who could form a fairly formidable pairing with Lindstrom or possibly Hronek. It would allow Detroit to let Edvinsson and the rest of their substantial LHD pipeline ferment for another year pending call ups. As for moving out Suter, I think he's a good player but Veleno and Rasmussen I feel have over taken him and I don't think a fourth line roll is really for him. Detroit also gets Dillon for next year which gives the team a little security if not enough young guys prove to be ready. Jets gain a little cap space and cap flexibility for next season.

Yzerman already said that he's not trading 2023 picks, He's looking at acquiring more.

And we're trading a younger piece for a much older piece in Dillon either. If Yzerman deals Suter it's for a 2023 3rd round pick not an older Dman.

The pick could easily be 2024. My thought process is that Suter I feel has gotten out played and that with a few injuries the defence could use some help.

Why Dillon? Last thing Detroit needs right now is another top 6 defenseman

Hagg is available to play next week. He cleared concussion protocol. We might as well keep Suter. He's a rental and teams aren't looking to add cap right now without getting a sweetener. The lowball offers aren't worth trading him. Once injuries hit we'll be happy to have Suter. Stanley is a big pylon. His size is literally keeping him in the NHL.

I don't think Oesterle is all that great and I would prefer Edvinsson play a year in Grand Rapids. Lindstrom is good but I think his play fell off a bit near the end of the season and I would like a good veteran to be his partner instead of the revolving door that could be 3LD. Also injuries to Pysyk, Walman and Hagg, even though I think Hagg is skating again, was part of the reason.

Oh wicked, that is good. His injury looked scary. I feel this defence is better though lol.

I'm not against trading Suter but he has been Detroit's best 2C in several years despite being a 3C skill wise. I don't see Detroit trading Suter until the TDL or at least until Copp proves he can be successful as a 2C in Detroit. Suter is basically a safety net.

I agree, in all reality I haven't made an AGM in awhile and had the itch to do so lol. To me this trade could work, even though probably unlikely, for both sides.

Well when your choices are Oesterle or Hagg playing in the 3rd pair Dillon becomes a lot more appealing.

Suter is definitely the 13th forward right now, it's basically looking like Rasmussen with be 3C with Dominik Kubalik and Filip Zadina and possibly Joe Veleno 4C with Sundqvist and possibly Soderblom. Suter is definitely the odd man out as of right now.

Yzerman barely speaks to the press let alone does he ever say anything that’s specific like “I’m not trading picks,” etc. etc.
I have no opinion on this specific trade but it sure would be nice if you could cite where you heard (or read) Yzerman say that.

Go to his presser right after free agency began, He said he has no desire to move any of his 2023 picks, And if anything he'd looking to acquire a lot more 2023 picks. Cough possible Bertuzzi trade.
