Takes a 2nd at least for Soucy. To dump Barrie, takes at least a 4th.

Jets may as well keep the guy who fills a depth role now (at league minimum) instead of a pick which isn't likely produce an NHL player. If the Jets are out of the playoff race near the TDL, then I could see it happening, but not now.

A high scoring Right handed D man at less than 5 mill can't be a dump with a top 10 point production amongst D man for recent memory

*cough* *cough* *His defensive game and Edmonton’s cap situation* *cough*

What I’m saying is this:
Take the example of the Kulikov trade. A top 4 D-man at only 2.25M is a steal, right? That’s worth at least a 4th round pick, if not a 3rd. But because of Minnesota’s cap situation, they got nothing in return.
Look also at the Monahan trade. Calgary was tight on cap, Monahan is a middle six centreman that has had 1/2 a point a game the last 3 years. Before those 3 years, he had over 1.00 points per game per year, and he has the potential to get back to that tenure. At 6.35M, you wouldn’t think it would be a cap dump to a team like Montreal that isn’t contending, right? It should end at least at Future Considerations if not Calgary getting a low pick. But, because of Calgary’s cap situation, Montreal took advantage of that and squeezed a 1st round pick out of them.

Point being, cap is worth a LOT now, in the current NHL, so a 4.5M number 4 D with offensive upside is going to cost you at least a 4th round pick to dump, especially with Edmonton’s horrible cap situation, if not more.

There is a positional bias here, offensive Right handed D man that is a Special teams darling. PP unit #1 Right handed, the market is still there especially with how much top D men that produce less than Barrie get paid

Oh, I didn't think of that! Strategically use Barrie on the PP and play him on a defensiv pair (because Seattle is a defensive team).
