Habs are a big team with great history & lots of fans but Leaf Nation is the biggest fan base in the league; so hard to speak on their behalf but I feel safe saying - on behalf of Kyle Dubas, Leaf management & Leaf Nation - we don’t need advice from the worst team in the league

You don’t think a team who just had the 1OA pick and played more playoff games in the last 2 seasons than the leafs(and knocked the leafs out), won a cup in the last 30 years could maybe give some advice on success because your fan base is a bit bigger? Interesting take, not sure I could support it but I like the creative thinking

Every comment on here including mine and yours are unsolicited. It’s a forum to openly give opinions and we all do so regardless of how accurate the comments may be, knowledge or background on the topics.. but here we all are

Then let me give you my feedback, no I don’t think the Leafs have anything to learn from the Habs. Finishing dead last and winning first overall pick is a sign of nothing but ineptitude, & luck. Habs getting to the finals was impressive but a fluke imo - evidence being they missed the playoffs and finished last the following season. If I have learned anything it’s that in nhl playoff series the best team sometimes doesn’t win; sometimes it simply comes down to luck - bad call, lucky bounce, injuries, etc. However , a good team with a good GM (one you want to emulate) sets up a winning culture and a team that can be successful for many years (like Dubas & the Leafs). Give yourself a chance every year and who knows what can happen. The habs ain’t that.

Ok, I respect your opinion, also partially agree that the leafs don’t necessarily need advice. But I do think your anti habs shines through in most of your comments. For instance you write off the leafs losing to the Habs because of fluke and injury to JT, on the flip side the Habs had more wages lost to injury in a single season than any team ever has.. all star caliber G out for 82 games(price), all star caliber #1 D man out for 82 games(Weber), not to add all the other players hurt for stretches of the season like their captain who played just over half the season and so on. Maybe the reason they were out of a playoff race and finished dead last was for the missing talent due to injuries. Now I’m still not suggesting TOR needs MTL to help them but I think it would be unwise to completely dismiss the organization the way I’ve seen. Everyone who has played hockey at the professional level will agree that regular season and playoffs is different hockey, so organizations build teams that can play one but not the other, this is a possibility.. some build the perfect storm and cups or falling just short comes from it. Every year recently the leafs have been competitive in the first round and have fallen just short, could be luck/fluke, maybe this is the year. We will find out for sure. I don’t think anyone actually wants to see a repeat. Anyways I’m trying to point out that basing your argument on fan base size which is largely based on population rather than success isn’t a great look. I agree Dubas has done some great work, a few bad things that he’s had to fix but he does. Has 0 to do with fan base.

Maybe it wasn’t clear (poorly written) but my point was I don’t (typically) deign to speak for Leaf nation in part because it’s such a large fan base. Maybe smaller teams, fans are more comfortable, maybe not. And I absolutely have an anti-Habs bias, I’m a leaf fan - we can’t stand them. That’s why I would not comment on what the habs need to do to be successful…one because I truly don’t care, two because I know no self respecting habs fan would take advice from a leafs fan. The opposite should be (and is) clear to most fans.
Yes, the nhl is the only major sporting organization in the world that allows match officials to call the game differently from reg season to playoffs (one of many reasons it is a bit of a bush league). The Leafs outplayed both the habs and bolts but couldn’t get it done; they need to learn to be more ruthless and one day they’ll catch a break
