Very solid contract for VGK. I've watched this kid for the last 3 years and the Knights are undeniably better when he's in the lineup. He just needs to stay healthy. If Vegas stays healthy this season, I have little doubt that they'll be back in the playoffs.

From a play-driving perspective, Hague did a solid job of generating offense and firing pucks on net. He registered a career-high 116 shots this season and performed well in key advanced stat categories (51.81 Corsi For percentage, 52.13 Goals For percentage at even strength). Hague has lots of offensive potential, but it’s in the defensive zone where some of his notable weaknesses lie — particularly in the area of defensive zone entries and exits.

$2,295,150 would have been w huge overpay and 2,293,150 would have been highway robbery. 2,294,150 is just right

The reason the number is so specific is to maximize LTIR.

Whatever total amount the AAVs of all their LTIR players are, they want to exceed the cap by that entire amount. LTIR raises the cap ceiling by the amount a team is over when LTIR is activated. So if a team doesn't get over the cap by the entire total AAVs of LTIR players they have, they are effectively operating under a lower cap ceiling.

If Hague did not sign this before the deadline for Vegas to set their roster, there is no way Vegas could offer Hague this AAV, short of another player getting hurt for the season, or Vegas trading away a roster player. Trading a roster player is nearly impossible right now without taking back cap, so that's off the table. I also think it is against the CBA to knee cap players. Which means, the deadline for Hague to sign anything above replacement AAV level (750k-1.125M) was today.

This entire thing was idiotic. Missing training camp can kill the career of a young defender. Assuming rumors are correct, Hague wanted roughly 2Mx2y, or 3Mx3y. Vegas wanted the extra year at 2M, and clearly won the negotiation at the buzzer. Hague is going to come into the season behind, and his career might be hurt as a result of this. Both sides should have figured this out much earlier so that Hague could get to training camp.

Maybe Hague settled for a low AAV, but that's some nice signing bonus for a young player
