Your reason for sending Provorov to the Canes is quite flawed. Provorov would be on the 3rd pair in Carolina as it stands. Gardiner is LTIRetired, and Skjei typically plays for the season, whilst rarely missing even 4 games (discounting the 2019-20 season). Pesce misses his share of games, and since Provorov isn’t proven on his off side, making the move for Provorov is completely pointless. Canes will keep de Haan and the picks instead. Canes also have the RHD depth just in case Pesce misses games. So wasting assets on Provorov just so they can overload their 3rd pairing is not the smartest of asset management, especially when that cap space could be used instead to bring Patches back during the regular season and resign key players in the off season.
I get the Tampa was able to roll 3 top pairing LHD the past couple of years, but their depth also suffered, in the forward core, their RHD, and backup goalie positions, and they were also circumventing the cap by pulling the Kucherov. Canes are not in the same position.
