Description
Based off last nights performances, lines are when everyone are healthy and if the following observations last longer than 2-3 games. All in all not a bad first game of the season, both teams play was sloppy and the goaltending on both sides needs to improve but it is just game 1 lol.

1. Hoffman is useless and should be sent to the ECHL or the moon.
2. Dadonov wasn't a great investment and should be benched a game or two minimum.
3. Slaf's still a work in progress but had some great moments defensively especially that backcheck on Mathews where he tied him up before he got his shot off in the slot.
4. Wideman was horrendous and needs to sit a game or two to see if he can bounce back to last years form

So that we don't discourage the young guys by giving up 6-8 goals a game

That's a terrible idea. Send the kids to the farm to develop together and possibly a run to a AHL championship. Season is for Bedard.

No it's a terrible idea to run Monty 20 games and give up 5+ goals a game for a young team. We need a goalie who won't win us games but will keep the score close. It is better for their development to not be blown out of games every 3 or 4 days.

If they're being rattled by this they should review their career choices.

No offense but that is such a ridiculous statement! Even the most grizzled vet can't handle losing on a consistent basis, how many times have you heard McDavid say he is tired of losing or not making the playoffs? Losing games by a goal or two is at least acceptable, losing by 4 or 5 is not good for a young players confidence. The fact that we have 7 of 23 players on our roster who are 23 our younger and 5 with less than 20 games combined, makes little sense to subject them to such moral breaking losses so early in their careers. I guess you are just the type of person who says "oh you have a broken leg, too bad just walk it off", that may work for you but realistically most players need confidence to play at such a high level. Losing by 4+ goals every 2-4 days is not the way to instill confidence in a young club.

Giving up a 3rd pick for Korpisalo to let him walk to shelter the kids if there isn't any other options is a good idea. That being said, Monte gave up 3.5 goals a game last season, nowhere near the 5+ you state.

3.5 a season playing in front of a more experienced defense, this year he isn't going to get that (especially at the Start of the season) with Matheson and Eddy out a while.

I'm not sure if replacing Montembault with Korpisalo would have the impact you're hoping.

Last season:
Montembault - .891 SV%, 3.77 GAA
Korpisalo - .877 SV%, 4.15 GAA

Oh, and since Korpisalo will be on IR for a little longer while he recovers from hip surgery, your backup would most likely be:

Cayden Primeau - .868 SV%, 4.62 GAA

Not saying Montembault's a star or anything, just that I don't think it's worth it for a rebuilding team to be giving up a middling pick for a backup goalie, of all positions. There were plenty of them available on waivers over the past few weeks that would've cost nothing if the Habs really thought that Montembault wasn't up to the task - Keith Kinkaid, Joey Daccord, Connor Ingram, Oscar Dansk, Malcolm Subban, Magnus Hellberg, Dustin Tokarski, Zane McIntyre, Oscar Dansk, Zachary Fucale, Jonas Johansson, and Louis Domingue are all goalies who passed through waivers if Montreal wanted to get a guy who could throw up an .885 SV% instead of Montembeault, or even worse, trading a 3rd for Korpisalo.

I wanted them to claim a few of those guys, I just have serious doubt that Monty in front of this defense won't be a tire fire from hell lol.
