That contract extension is brutal, no one wants to be paying 8M for a guy well past 30. If he's moved it would be to a team that is desperate to win now and will ruin their future for it (Montreal)

Ha, only Montreal likes trading young players for old guys.

I think he's the 2nd or 3rd best d-man in the league so i think it would cost more.

Yes, but you have to remember his age and salary.

He is good, but he's leaving his prime.

At this point, Drouin is gone so Tampa may be out of consideration.

Not like any of this ever mattered, Burns wasn't going to be traded. He wasn't ever being shopped, and if he ever gets traded it will be because San Jose doesn't want his contract so they add a sweetener

I mean, if they had to trade Burns, it would be to Boston, who really just needs defence. Though he'd cost McAvoy+ which, for a 32 year old Burns, is likely gonna be a no from Boston ... and San Jose too probably anyway.

I don't think Sharks would want to retain any of his salary besides they are in win now mode with a small window still if any... Way Burns is going this year with like no goals in nearly 20 games his value is probably a lot lower... Though later in season having Heed who can play on PP eating up 18ish minutes more or less a night... Braun who can play 20+, it should allow Burns to get less ice time but have more energy instead of fading as season goes... It don't look like he will be getting 20-30 goals this year unless he suddenly explodes... I'd not be surprised to hear he has a shoulder injury or something along those lines. Lots can use a right shooting D-man who can even play forward at an elite level so sure there is a market. Buffalo would probably take his contract intact to keep him trapped there so he can't escape before some other teams smile. Seems most think they will trade Evander Kane at some point. Islanders could trade Tavares for Brent Burns with some other players/picks thrown in if they feel they can't keep him. Really expecting BB will end this career wearing the Teal or those awful black wanna be Kings jerseys if they wear them again smile. Coming off the Norris things were looking really good for him, Johanson or so on Nashville had like no goals with an 8M cap hit so there lots of expensive contracts floating around wink.

Actually, I can envision trading Brent Burns and here's why: If you go back to last summer, Doug tried to sign Tavares to a $13mm contract to become the new, younger #1 Center we need. Had he been successful, there would not have been an EK65 on the roster since the cap space would have been taken up. You would have had Tavares as a 1C and Burns as a 1D....and either way, Pavs would have been gone because there was no room to sign him for this year, given all of the other contracts kicking in for 2019-20.
Now, envision an Offer Sheet for Marner at $10.56million for 5 years. No way Toronto can match that and if you look at 2020-21, they only have one D Man signed (Reilly). The Sharks make a hockey trade with Toronto by trading LeBanc and Burns for Austin Matthews and timothy Liljegren. Sharks now have their #1C and a #1D in EK65, both younger than Burns and Tavares so should be around for years. Toronto has Tavares, Marner and Burns instead of having Matthews and Tavares; and they have 2 D men signed for 2020-21
