Maybe throw in a 2nd or 3rd round pick, and I'd expect something like that.
Unless Ottawa goes on a massive losing streak, Arizona overplayed their hand. No one is meeting their price for Chychrun. He has yet to play hockey this year. He also is disgruntled with Arizona failing to pull the trigger on a trade when there has been multiple suitors, likely who would give up 1st round picks for him, which should be enough.
The Seth Jones trade is not reality. We just saw multiple star players with similar or more team control traded for a 1st and one or two other pieces. Fiala (with an extension), Debrincat (2 years of team control). Marino went for a struggling former first round pick who still has upside but isn't a blue chipper anymore and a 2nd. In what reality is a team giving up multiple 1st round picks for Chychrun?
I think Arizona's POV is that the price should be inflated because his cap hit is low relative to the cost of a top 4 defender, which is why the Hagel comparable is brought up. I don't think the cap hit is low enough for that to fly, I also think it needs to be considered that Tampa's 1sts are projected to be 25-32.
They are misplaying this, and offers are going to go down. Especially if Chychrun comes back and either struggles, or gets booboo faced like Dubois did. The only possible chance the Coyotes have is the Senators struggling, and Dorion trying to save his job.
