Detroit Double Dip

Created by: Shakabakes
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 14, 2022
Published: Oct. 14, 2022
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Description
If Kravtsov and Blais turn it around, then this trade could be easily nixed.

But with Kravtsov's inexperience and Blais' penchant for sustaining injury, it's more than justified to be wary of them.

Rangers are looking to accrue at least another $4M or so in Cap space by the TDL (hence why the Cap is screwy at this current moment). Gives them 4 solid lines entering the Playoffs. Could even see them maneuver for another Defensman, possibly.

Trade only works if Detroit is out of the Playoff picture, obviously.

Detroit declines. We have to do better than Kravstov as the main piece coming back in a Bertuzzi trade. I know he's viewed as a rental but you know what? I'd rather lose him for nothing than knuckle under to a lowball trade offer. I'm sick of hearing about rentals being worth nothing. Just like the Patty Kane offers. Just keep The player and tell other GM's to kick rocks.

What would be an example?

What Player/Prospect from the Rangers (or any other team) would be reasonable for you to be paired with a 1st Rounder for Bertuzzi?

How about Cuylie and that 1st?

Me personally I would want Othmann/Cuyle and maybe Skinner added in for that package. Not really much interest in Kravtsov or Blais.

I highly doubt Detroit would decline this. Obtaining a 1st, a 2nd and a B+ prospect like Kravstov for Bertuzzi and Suter would be a very good return.

Problem is no contender will want to give up a good prospect. Fans want their cake and to eat it too. First round pick sounds nice but the Rangers pick will be around 30-32 overall. So are we talking a Joe Veleno like player? Doesn't move the needle for me.

Yzerman can't show he'll be bullied into a weak offer just so he can get something rather than nothing. Sakic wouldn't pay a 2nd to get Bernier a couple of trade deadlines ago. Yzerman held firm and ended up dealing Bernier in the Nedeljkovic trade.

This served Yzerman well down the road when he traded Nick Leddy for Sundqvist, Walman and a 2nd. His buddy Armstrong knew Stevie wouldn't knuckle under.

What's so great about Kravstov and a late 1st who will most likely never play in the NHL? And a 2nd? Another player who the numbers say will likely not turn into an NHL player? Easy pass for me. Or is Yzerman's goal to help the Rangers win a Stanley Cup? Is Dolan paying him? So we're essentially trading Bertuzzi for lottery tickets? Yzerman isn't doing that. It's not a very good return at all.

Have you seen the price to move cap this year thus far, I dont believe it will get cheaper. Bert is worth at the deadline a 1st + (what the plus is up for debate as his production this year will influence it) asking for retention on it adds more(it cost a Van a second to move the same amount of cap for instance). Suter's value is about a mid round pick at this point, maybe even less given his contract. So the deal isn't the low ball offer some might say, but it doesn't help the wings that much beyond the 1st rounder. You need to find the right piece that would make the wings consider it.

The Pick I included was the Dallas Pick, to be fair. A mid Round 1st, as opposed to the late 1st of the Rangers Pick.
