Right no GM in their sane mind is going to give a 34 year old Kovalchuk an 8 year deal, And no sane Ray Shero is going to trade Kovy to the Rangers any ways.

youre right on all of this except if that's somehow on some universe the deal offered i can 100% guarantee you the devils are shipping kovy to new york so damn quick.
But anyway, that trade is really really really bad

The reason why I gave him an eight year deal because he actually has 12 years left. Since 12 isn't an option. I had to pick 8. More realistic

he has 0 years left, hes literally a "free agent" owned by the devils, can sign any contract the devils give him. if the devils dont trade him this year hes an actual free agent next year and can sign wherever he wants.

Bro. Do you even know the controversy back in 2012. If not search it up. He has 12 years.

He voluntarily retired from the NHL.
His rights are owned by NJ. He has no contract
He can do one of these 3 things ONLY:
1. Sign a deal with NJ, they can in turn, move him keep him whatever
2. Try and come back to the league without going to the devils. In this case all of the GM'S have to vote. If anyone says no, he's not playing
3. Wait to come back the next year (sit out the upcoming season) He is then a complete UFA free to sign wherever he wants.

He will sign a couple yr deal with NJ, while his agent works out the deal with team he will get traded to, with some type of assets coming to Devs.

I agree with the above comments, that the Devils will not trade with the Rangers, plus the Rangers are giving up too much in that trade for Kovalchuk. Another issue with this line-up is that the defense wasn't really addressed. The Devils weakest point was the lack of capable defenseman, and that needs to be addressed moving forward.
