FUTURE WITH BEDARD

Description
I think at the 2023 Draft it’ll be between Chicago, AZ or SJ on who gets the #1 Bedard pick.. He’s a Crosby like talent and someone you build around. They’ve never had a #1 overall selection before in their 35 year existence.

I also think the Sharks will either keep Couture/Hertl or they could deal one & in return sign or trade for a Top D man. If they keep both they could afford to sign a LD like Toews to play with EK. If they keep Hertl I think he’s best suited on the Wing… guy can dangle on anyone and he makes sick plays when he has freedom which he doesn’t now as a Center. They also need/could sign a UFA top winger anywhere between 7M-9M AAV. Nylander would be cool to see.

I’m still not sold on the bottom 2 D pairings, Even Merkley is a big ??? if the Sharks qualify him. Not sure if the new Management sees him as an NHL level D man. I think if they can just get a top LD to pair with EK everything else below will fall into place.

If Strauss Mann turns out to be the goalie he’s projected then I believe he’s the future #1 for SJ .. Kappo is a good younger 1B/Backup.

Who knows.. this is all 2 years down the line. A lot of moving parts but all I know is if the Sharks can hit the lotto and land Bedard it would change the franchise forever. + Eklund, Bordeleau & Coe + even Bystedt and a few other prospects who could/will all be NHL ready. New wave of players coming in much like when Couture, Hertl and Meier came in back in 2011, 2013, 2015 and the Sharks went to the Cup finals in ‘16.

Towes gets more.
Gushin and Robins will both be in the NHL by now,
I also have a strong feeling in 2 years Laroque will be there playing over Merkley. he’s bigger stronger better defensivly but still provides huge offensive upside.

biggest problem is your maxed out and have a bunch of ELC that are up and will need raises.

Not really.. 2-3 seasons after this and Karlsson, Couture, Ferraro, Kahkonen..etc will be off the books.. that 26 million in cap space. I could see them re-signing Ferraro but the rest will go to UFA.

Yea I’m not totally sold on Merkley .. unless he can somehow come up to the NHL and prove himself in the next year or soo, I don’t see him being more than a bottom D pairing or PP specialty guy.

Obviously the Sharks have a handful of other prospects in the pipeline that could be NHL ready by 2024 but just not sure how they will fit in the lineup.

I don’t think Toews gets more than 9M AAV.. he will be between 7-9M .. most NHL teams already have locked down their top D man @8M + AAV so he’s secondary and he sure won’t be back in Colorado because they are maxed out after this season.

yea except on 50% of NHL teams he would be the clear cut #1.
and with the cap increase I could see him getting 9-9.5. but if we could get him for 8 i would be excited. Robins i have a hard time finding a spot for… even more so is we get Bedard over Fantilli, Gushin to me is very close to NHL ready and looks every bit the part of a future top 6 wing.
yes there will be cap space but before you see Karlsson or Couture deals expire you will have to resign 4-5 ELC and all of those guys will get raises anywhere from 2-3 mil more to upwards of 5-6, this screams more cap hell and lost talent to me.

I think you may be asking/expecting a bit too much of Mann at the NHL level. For me, I don't put much into his years at UM, as while they are without a doubt good year, he also was surrounded with good talent if I remember correctly. If he can continue to perform with Skelleftea AIK, I could definitely re-evaluate his upside, but I can't see him being more than a 1B goalie. Reminds me of a slightly more talented Reimer at this point in my opinion, a guy you can count on for 40 or so games but less so for 60 games.

A slightly more talented Reimer is a starting goaltender in the NHL hahah. He’s a career .913 % 2.80 GGA goalie.. while playing on some crappy Toronto teams in his early years. Reimer is not a bad goaltender and I think if there’s any contenders at the trade deadline that have some injuries and need a Goalie he would be a guy the Sharks could leverage and move for a draft pick. I think Mann is the Sharks future, I think he will develop into a great starting Goalie. He has a great foundation and is “older” 24 years old .. in two years he should be ready to get some NHL games in.
