A lot to give up for a UFA goalie. Leafs still likely just win one series at most and now don't have four draft picks with that Varlomov trade. Leafs are still the position of getting rid of 10m in cap when Murray and Muzzin return in 23/24.

-Is Chych *that* much better than Sandin at this point? I just think this is a lot of assets to spend for a team that doesn't necessarily have a ton in the cupboard.

-Varly's only available if the Isles fall out of contention, but I'd say this is fair value for him if they wind up moving him. They should have room to do the retention themselves if need be, as well.

-Feel like Schenn gets a 2nd rounder coming back at the deadline - he's not gonna push Chiarot territory but if he's managing 18 minutes of solid defense every night at that cap hit, he's going to be in in huge demand.

I think he probably is. Scored 42 points in 56 games just one season ago (when he was Sandin's current age) and is only 24

Why do people want Chychrun, he just is coming back from wrist and ankle injury didnt he? I know its not quite the same but look at philly and Ellis that should be enough to deter teams from giving up alot.

That bubble season was great, true - but I get the feeling that it looks more and more like an outlier. The 56-game season is the only year he didn't miss any time (partial credit for only missing a handful of games in 2019-20, I guess) and it was also a significant jump in his scoring - he's never even scored at a 40 point pace in any of his other 5 seasons, and then in 2020-21 he's a 60 pts/82 GP guy?

I just wonder how much of an upgrade you're actually getting for that package, I guess. Sandin has a ton of potential to become that type of guy, too - just needs to get the regular ice time that Sheldon Keefe seems to be hesitant to give out.

maybe. we're in win now tho, not waiting on potential mode. he's on a steal contract, and is 6'2 220 which can definitely help to replace some of the physical aspects in Muzzin's absence in terms of net front battles and stuff
