Love Zub, but he is a defensive d-man, he doesn't get the Weegar deal. Looking more at Siegenthaler contract as a starting point

Zub isn't worth more than $5,000,000.

Besides you're nearly $6,500,000 over the salary cap.

You gave everyone the absolute max contract they're going to get plus more. Take a million or two off all the contracts except DeBrincat and look at it then.

Siegenthaler could have gotten more on his extension he was making just over a mill and could have gotten 4.8 in his market value.

Watson, Austin : he'll be worth $900,000 but no need to re-sign him
Talbot, Cam : he'll probably still worth $2,250,000 but that's a spot we need to save on
Motte, Tyler : he'll have a career season ala Rodrigues, let someone else overpay. With Crookshank, Greig, Ostapchuk, Boucher, Jarventie, etc, etc etc we won't need him
Brassard, Derick : same, won't need him
Hamonic, Travis : same, won't need him
Zub, Artem : I can't see a world where Zub is worth as much as Weegar or more than Pulock, etc

So if we don't sign Watson Talbot brassard hamonic to have depth in the organization sure zub could make 1 million or maybe 2 less but we're still over the cap

We can't sign these guys (we might sign 1 forward and 1 D-man veteran at 750 000$, like we did with Brassard for example)

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3726798

I put Zub at 5.0 but I am hoping for 4.5 (see Manson, Tanev, Murphy, Klefbom, etc)

I have DeBrincat at 9.0 but I'm hoping for 8.5 (see Filip Forsberg or Patrik Laine)

I have Pinto at 5.0 but there's hope he'd get less on a 2 years bridge

I have Brannstrom at 2.0 but could be more or less, depends on how the rest of his season goes. He might simply price himself out of town

After 2023-24, things will become much easier

Ryan, Phaneuf, Del Zotto buyouts will be over by then. Zaitsev buyout will take 2.0 less in cap space, Murray retained salary will disappear, etc.

Then the following year, Giroux's 6.5 comes off the books and all of this will be enough to allow to sign Sanderson and Greig long term.
