Projection for 22-23 offseason

Created by: FilthyMitts05
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 24, 2022
Published: Oct. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kessel probably puts up 25-30 points in Vegas maybe more. I think he will still be a good bottom six guy in a year.
Klim Kostin hopefully makes the team on a PTO and provides great physical play for the forward group. He probably gets paid a couple hundred thousand more.
Reaves also adds some physicality in the bottom six as well.
Bourgault makes the team in training camp as well.
I think almost everyone besides maybe Foegele takes a step up so no need to make a ton of moves. He will probably be shipped off at somepoint in the season unless he earns his role.
Holloway also becomes a true top 6 player. Clouder gets pretty close as well.
Klingberg would be a huge edition to the team as well.

For 2 years, it's seems reasonable-ish...Comp would likely be Dobson at 3 x $4, which is a friggin' steal.

I think Bouchard signs a bridge deal so he can try to get more money on a long-term contract. I think hes gonna be good this season but not what some are projecting him to be. Thats why the Klingberg trade could make so much sense.

Fair enough, I have a pretty serious soft spot for Bouchard, love him on the PP and think he's the kind of D man every team should have. I like the Dobson comparable above.

Is Klingberg really that much of an upgrade over Barrie? Seems like he's needed someone more responsible defensively to cover for him the past several seasons while having pretty similar production to Barrie. For an extra 1.5 million I would think there are other areas the Oilers could upgrade significantly more.

I agree that hes not the greatest guy defensivly but i do think hes quite a clear upgrade over Barrie. He is a very mobile defenseman who handles the puck very well. He can play a lot of minutes while Barrie has proved that he cannot. Barries stats are obviously very inflated due to the powerplay, im not saying hes terrible but Klingberg is a large step ahead of him. Klingberg makes the guys hes playing with better while Barrie drags his pairing down. For example Kulak seems to be struggling with Barrie while Klingberg and Kulikov haven't seemed terrible thus far.

Some good ideas here. Would rather have Chykryn than Klingberg - there’s too many big money long term deals on this team already. Even with a Bridge deal Bouchard will likely be in the vicinity of the deal Nurse signed a few years back at 5.6M.
