Interesting Ideas if Muzzin LTIRetired

Created by: Lambchopz
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 24, 2022
Published: Oct. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This would only work out if Muzzin was eventually put on LTIR. It isn’t guaranteed, but looking at what he’s dealt with as of late I wouldn’t be shocked if he eventually had to go on LTIR for at least the remainder of the season, if not longer
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Höglander, Nils
  2. 2023 5th round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Villeneuve, William
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
I would be willing to up the price a bit, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was this low based on how Hoglander has been treated as of late
2.
TOR
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
Pittsburgh rumoured to have been shopping him in the offseason if I remember correctly due to too many d men + the cap hit
PIT
Pettersson is a steady DFD who excels at not giving away the puck and posts very good results in zone denials/entries against, while also being no slouch physically or offensively. I like his fit into the top 4, especially if he, Rielly, or Gio can move to the right side.

Not sure what the cost would be but probably a mid round pick (cheap cost due to again Pittsburgh wanting to move him. The very common price we saw over the summer here on CF for Pettersson was a 3rd/4th, which Toronto can make work)
    3.
    TOR
    PIT
    1. Holl, Justin
    Additional Details:
To a contender looking for a cheap RHD who can block shots and play 20 mins a night

No reason to move Hoglander for that

The Pens aren't going to trade Pettersson. He's always been a great player but has taken a step forward this year.

If for whatever reason he was up for trade, it would take a lot more than a mid round pick.

Nils Hoglander is 21 years old who has lots of NHL experience, and was extremely unlucky last year while playing 13 minutes a night. No way Vancouver accepts that.

You wouldn't want Peterson to play on the right side. But you could get freidman from the Pens he plays both sides well.

The pens moved Matheson and Marino this offseason, they are keeping Pettersson. Also, like many have said, they have 5 RHD on NHL contracts so Holl is unnecessary.
