Pretty much! Maaaayyybe send Slaf down for a little bit of refinement / let him go to the World Juniors to give Dadanov some time to generate some trade interest, even if only for a late pick with salary retention. But if he stinks, yeah, waive him, maybe lose him for free (but lose his salary hit) and call up Slaf. Then use the cap space to take on a bad contract at the deadline for an asset.

I'd like Slaf to play at least 20 games before they even consider sending him down. He's shown significant improvement every game and to judge him on his performances right now would be a mistake IMO.
