You can trade negotiating rights to UFAs, I just don't see us getting that kind of return for it. Plus I definitely don't see that many UFA rights deals going down. Maybe a certain player or two that gets targeted by a team, and they are set on that player.

Let me start off with the soon to be UFA trades you made. It's nice that you think we'd get something like that in return for them before the deadline. Next I'd much rather have Drouin, but if EDM decides to maybe retain salary on Eberle maybe. Don't think we will go after someone like Bonino. That Ekholm trade is an interesting one; most of the people have been trading for R. Ellis instead (which I believe is not realistic).

No to Bonino (I hate the pens). I also think you aren't gaining enough in Ekholm and Eberle to give up a top 6 wing who is entering his prime, Carlson, and our latest first round draft pick, plus a future asset. I think any big trades should start with Holtby. Grubi has been statistically equal in a smaller sample size, but would take a much more cap friendly deal while we wait for Samsonov to head over from Russia. Dealing Holt's could yield a large return from a team desperate for a franchise goaltender.
