As team gets healthy and TDL

Created by: Hammerwise
Team: 2022-23 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 24, 2022
Published: Oct. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just to be interesting and certainly Muzzin doesnt waive, but for 2.8mil in cap space this yr and next PHI would get a 2nd and 3 3rds.

As far as the TB or LA moves, these might not be destinations/just approx values.

And to clarify, if TOR fans think they can cut out the middle man to rid themselves of Muzzin and his 5.6mil, thats fine but really its because PHI isn;t going anywhere and can eat half his cap hit, Toronto cant.

What makes you think van Riemsdyk worth 2 second round picks.

Toronto will give the 2nd and one of the thirds. That’s enough for a cap dump

Hes a guaranteed 20-25 goals, big body on pp and had 5 pts in 6 games to start the season, with half retained, hardly a cap dump. (Especially since you just offered a 2nd and 3rd.) PHI has the cap space, so they dont need to dump him, but will trade JVR who has no trade protection for good value.

Caps already have too many middle 6 players as it is, with guys like Protas and McMichael already battling for playing time, and with Lapierre coming up next year, I can't see the Caps spend such an exorbitant amount for Laughton when they will have internal replacements.

Funny how the Leafs pay a 2nd and two 3rd to get rid of Muzzin, and then you trade him again but get a 3rd and a fifth. The leafs would just do that trade instead lol

Lol what is that Leafs trade? So when the Leafs could just sit Muzzin on LTIR, we trade 3 picks away as a cap dump then you proceed to trade Muzzin and give up lesser valued picks?

Can they retain for 2 years? Thats the difference. They are taking on 2 yrs of 5.6mil which Dubas and the Leafs need to get rid of, eating half of that and then getting two picks (one a 3rd) THREE drafts away.

By all means if the Leafs can retain 2.8mil and entice LA for a 3rd and a 5th THREE drafts away, then they should. And the idea that Muzzin will just sit on LTIR (because Dubas cant manage a cap) just won't happen.

(All supposition, because Muzzin isn;t waiving for either and LA/NYR/whomever else wont want him either)

In the trades you just made, the Leafs should definitely trade him half retained. The difference for saving 2.8 million is loosing a 2nd and two 3rd pick instead of getting a 3rd a 5th and Akil Thomas.

I think the Leafs hold on to him until (hope not) he goes LTIR for ever. If healthy, he is very valuable to the team.

I agree, he is their best option for 2LD, but the leafs cant even activate their best lineup from LTIR due to the cap. While cap dumping him is unlikely at best (his age, his cap, his injuries, his 2 yrs left, his NTC), the leafs cant afford to retain on him either. And whomever takes him would have to have a deal in place and again Muzzin;s okay to pull it off. TOR doesnt have the time to just lose 2.8mil over the next 2 yrs.

Its not going to happen, but it would allow both TOR and PHI to maximize what they have now (Tor has a window to win and cant afford a slow, degrading, often LTIR 5.6mil and PHI has cap space and no expectations)

Still young, signed long term to a good deal, and when he plays with a steady partner (Niskanen, Ellis for 4 games, Deangelo now) he has looked great. When paired with scrubs/3rd pairing guys (Braun, Seeler, Gustaffson, etc...) he looks bad, tries to do too much. Dont think PHI moves him (I always thought Sanheim would be the one traded), but I think you'd be looking at a Chychrun price (a 1st or 2, a high prospect, and a solid youngish player now).

Hahaha, a scrub MacEwen for Blueger and a 3rd? That's a joke. Blueger isn't even close to a cap dump and MacEwen literally cleared waivers 2 weeks ago and zero value.
