Research jarventie. You’re a casual. Jarventie and a 2nd is absolutely fair deal

Is it just me or is having a 35 year old who played 19 games on a healthy season last year as our 2nd line enetr worrysome. Think we should play Pinto there, no?

Send Zaitsev to Belleville (like Del Zotto last season)

Then make the deal

Re-assess in the off-season. Either dump him (if cheaper) or just buy him out

The BUYOUT COST is $1,666,667, spread over 2 years too. Very cheap.

$2,833,334 in cap hit for the 1st season, $833,334 for the 2nd year.

1st + 2nd + 2nd + 3rd is not enough?

Zaitsev is of no incidence for the Hawks, they would save $ on this swap and Zaitsev would actually help with the tank.

Play Pinto as the 2C. And get a good vet 3C by trade. Or put Giroux at 2C and get them a winger

He's been stellar defensively for a long time. Was a pretty significant drag on his team's offense last year, but it wasn't reflective of his career as a whole. I think Ottawa's offense could mask his weaknesses, and they have a huge need for what he does well.

That will happen at some point this season, but right now Brassard is fine in the role. The 1st and 3rd lines are humming this year, slipping Brassard into the 2 spot let's Ottawa avoid messing with chemistry. He's also played with Giroux last year, and he's looked fine with those two in a small sample size. Is it a long term option, no. Bur it's fine for now. Eventually Brass and Pinto swap.

Zaitsev is absolutely of incidence for the Hawks. They'd want a 1st added just to take him, come on.

Hawks would probably consider Zaitsev + 1st with protection + 2nd for Murphy. Davidson doesn't seem to like prospects he didn't pick.

"no incidence" was maybe not the right way to put it so I'll re-explain

Hawks are not going to compete in the near future, they need a full rebuild

They would be swapping a good defensive D-man for an overpaid 3rd pairing D-man who's been played above his level for way too long

Murphy is owed 17.6 M$ for 4 years, Zaitsev is only owed 7 M$ for 2 years

Yes they get worse but they save 10.6 M$ in financial engagement. Zaitsev's AAV will actually be helpful next season to reach the cap floor

For getting worse (which they might actually want), they are being compensated as follows :

Järventie, Roby : early 2nd in 2020 (33rd OA), did well in men's leagues as a teenager, dominated the last WJC, tantalizing skillset, worth a late 1st at the very least (Sens wouldn't trade him for that)
2024 2nd round pick (WSH)
2023 2nd round pick (OTT)
2025 3rd round pick (OTT)

They should absolutely RUN with that. It's a much better package than a late 1st and a 2nd for example
