If Norris is in fact out for the season, and the Sens are sniffing a playoff spot, I wouldn't rule them out.

A package of Thompson/Bernard-Docker, a pick and a mid level prospect would be in their wheelhouse.

Minnesota wouldn't do that, so Minnesota isn't a destination. No one especially Minnesota is paying that for a rental. Our gm hasn't given a 1st, or prospect for a rental. Horvat might get that from another team not Minnesota

Not sure the Wild can jump in on that. Caps and Sens are better bets than them, I think.

As a pure rental there are lots of teams that would be interested. But VAN should maximize value by trying to deal him to a team that would want an extension in place. CBJ is a good fit for that, maybe WSH.

Detroit also fits as a destination for Horvat long term. Not only do they desperately need a C with his profile, but the wings are "his" team growing up, so he would be going home. Yzerman has the pieces and picks to do this and it may just be the right time in their rebuild for a move like this.

Unless they've move someone, WASH is far more likely to rent him. They are already mega-f'ed on cap next season, even if it goes up by 3-4M.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I don't think the Caps even look into Horvat, Strome has done quite well as the 2C so far this year, and his status as an RFA makes him far more appealing than Horvat's UFA status. I think the Caps stay the course with their current centers and maybe look at a top tier winger, like a Meier, a Kane, or a Tarasenko if he's available, rather than upgrade at center.

Good god I hope we don't go after Kane...

Depending on the price, I really don't hate it. If Washington decides to move McM, perhaps they would be able to send a 2023 2nd and a 2024 1st to make it work, though I would assume that Chicago seriously prefers a 2023 1st. He'd be great with Ovi and Kuzy and on the Power Play, but I would worry about giving up too much if the team is in a wild card spot come the deadline. If the team is comfortably in the playoffs, I think they would be more apt to make that kind of trade, but what I really don't want to see is the Caps deal a 2023 1st while being a WC1 or WC2, then missing the playoffs and not getting a chance to move higher in the draft to get one of those A rated prospects central scouting was talking about.

Seems like too much for Horvat imo. Take out either the 2nd or the prospect

TDL rental Cs:

Copp = Morgan Barron + 1st + 2nd (this is the best case scenario imo, where you get two picks and a prospect and get lucky with a conditional pick upgrading because the team makes a deep playoff run)
Giroux = Tippett + 1st + 3rd (Giroux is significantly better than Horvat but the NMC complicated things and lowered the return, im not sure how useful this is as a comp)
Pageau = 1st + 2nd (this is roughly what I think he would get, maybe swap the 2nd for a prospect instead of the pick. Pageau in 2020 is similar in value to Horvat now)
Hayes = Lemieux + 1st (This is the lower end of the trade return imo. Hayes was significantly better in 18-19 than Horvat is now but for whatever reason only got a 1st + young bottom 6 roster player)
Stastny = Foley + 1st (Stastny in 17-18 was also better than Horvat is now imo. This return is also on the lower end of a prospect + 1st)

MN says no. The GM only trades away skill players, he doesn't trade for them.
