Horvat to the Bus - CBJ side

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 27, 2022
Published: Oct. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Maybe Horvat isn't the #1C that some Jackets fans would hope for, but I think his style would work really well with Gaudreau's playmaking ability. He's a good, north-south-style goal scorer that can play in all situations and win face-offs. And unlike some other destinations that Horvat could go to as a rental, Columbus is a spot that can realistically offer Horvat an extension.

This deal sees CBJ pay a high price, but guaranteeing that they lock up Horvat while shedding a decent amount of cap space to give them flexibility moving forward. I added Schenn as a solid veteran Dman for depth purposes, but he's not an essential piece in the deal.

And to follow up on my post in your other thread.....

No way Horvat signs for $5.5 million. He is getting Kadri money amd term. Too many comparable there to suggest otherwise.

That's not his extension, it's his current contract for this year. The trade does allow the Jackets to negotiate his extension before the trade though.

If they are giving permission and he signs an extension (kinda like Pacioretty in VGK) I think the price should be higher
Kuraly is a bottom 6 guy, a good one, but still doesnt move the needle
Boqvist is still young and could jump into the top 6 but he's still a big quetion mark
If the canucks wanted to deal Horvat with permission to talk, I think a 1st and higher prospects and or picks is the way to go

Thanks for the feedback. I'd definitely hope for more/better pieces, but I think this is the baseline to a deal.

Apart from Kadri being decent defensively and Horvat being awful and also not nearly as good offensively as well. But yeah 5.5 is likely a little low.

For a non playoff team like CBJ why would they trade for him at the deadline when they can keep those assets and sign him as a UFA? It's not like they need him for a playoff run right now and not many playoff teams would even be able to extend Horvat anyway so he should be available in free agency

Really don't see this as a good move for Cbus, they need to keep that 1st round pick.

Jackets aren’t moving their first unless they have secured a playoff spot already or for a player with team control for multiple years. Horvat would have to come extended for 7m or less for them to trade this much. Also replace kuraly with roslovic or a prospect
