RYAN TVERBERG, C/RW, TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (CONNECTICUT, NCAA)

The fifth-last pick of the 2020 NHL draft – a pick that Toronto traded back into the draft for – has gone from a nearly forgotten draft prospect to nearly making Team Canada’s world junior team and now signing his entry-level deal with the Leafs. Tverberg has built his game on an incredible work rate, a penchant for pestering puck carriers, and intelligent offensive tendencies. He will get the chance to showcase his game with the Toronto Marlies to end the season. The skill and offensive tools may not be enough to warrant Tverberg finding a role in the top six in the NHL. Still, he understands how to generate chances, find ways to prevent the opposition from creating their own opportunities and use his speed in all three zones. Tverberg projects as a bottom-six player that plays a style of game that won’t hurt you but may not produce much in the way of raw offensive output.

Hirvonen got a secondary assist on the goal (also had 4 shots on goal). They lost 2-1 but still lead the Series 3-2.

Moldenhauer gets his 24th goal of the season.

No highlight yet, and his 25th.

Lisowsky with his 38th goal of the season, and 5th goal in his last 3 games.

Who here remembers Dymtro Timashov? Every now and then he will randomly pop into my head and I remember just how hyped I was for the guy. I feel like him and Ovchinnikov have a lot of similarities, hopefully Ovchinnikov has a better fate though

I remember Babcock talking about how big his lower body was in helping him to protect the puck.

He reminded me of guys like Moore or Hyman not so much of Ovchinnikov. The compete level is definitely there but Ovchinnikov has the speed that Timashov didn’t. I’m hoping that helps him because he has a slight build, although Cushman said he is up to 181

When Timashov did play for the Leafs, I thought he showed NHL potential. Was waived due to the forward :"numbers" but never found NHL footing with the Wings But got to admire the guy, moved to Canada at age 16 to play in the Quebec and didn't know French or English. But he make a life in the sport he loved.

GAME BREAKERS

Saskatoon Blades: Finishing second on the Club in goals, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Brandon Lisowsky has game-breaking ability within a deep Blades forward core. The Port Coquitlam, B.C. product scored 14 times on the power-play during the regular season, while his seven game-winning goals were second only to Egor Sidorov among Saskatoon skaters. Lisowsky has speed to burn and can score from all areas of the offensive zone.
