TDL Loading Up For Playoffs

Created by: UpsideDownQue
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 28, 2022
Published: Oct. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Im not completely sold on Domi but the Avs have been rumoured to be interested in him in the past and hes off to a good start in CHI. His defensive numbers havent been very good over his career but there have been stretches where hes been decent (in CAR last season and right now in CHI) - either way he would be insulated by strong defensive wingers if he came to the Avs

Nieto reunion makes some sense as a 13th forward who can fill in for any injuries in the bottom 6. Hes more experienced than the other depth forwards and may even outplay Cogliano for the 4LW spot even if everyone is healthy

Stecher is basically the same philosophy as Nieto but on defense. He wont play unless there are injuries but for a late pick its better to be safe than sorry

Max Domi has been a stud to start the season. I cant imagine his value has jumped too much already, but if he keeps performing like he is I could see something like a conditional first on the higher end.

Domi has been playing well. I'm not sure his value will dramatically swing upward though. He's been given a lot of ice time. He's making good use of it. I think a 2nd is reasonable. The retention makes it tough though...kane/toews will each need retention. With only 1 additional slot left I imagine Kyle Davidson will use it where ever he gets the most value. Not saying a 1st is what Domi should get, but if you want that last retention...it might be what it costs. Otherwise a 2nd to CHI and a 3rd to another team for them to retain.

Depends on if he can keep it up until the deadline but if he does then those values seem reasonable. Avs probably wont even need retention if they can accrue enough cap space by then

Could see domi being a 2nd that turns into a 1st if the Avs make the final

If they wanted Domi they would have just signed him in the off season and he definitely isn’t an answer at center

He signed with CHI on the first day of free agency before the Avs signed Lehkonen. If Domi was still a UFA after the Avs signed Lehkonen and had a more clear view of their cap situation then they may have tried to sign him - theyve reportedly had interest in Domi in the past

He hasnt been a full time C in a while but hes looked good back at C so far with Chicago in a limited sample size. Who knows if he keeps that up but either way I think he'd be a good fit for COL and their rush offense whether thats on LW or at C

You don’t think if the Avs were interested in him or expressed interest he wouldn’t have gladly signed that 1x3 with COL? He hasn’t been a full time C because he isn’t one. He wanted to be one in AZ and MTL and that didn’t work there.

Yeah they have had interest in him in the past but obviously they weren’t that interested in him.

Maybe, but he seemed pretty set on going to Chicago to be reunited with Luke Richardson. He had success as a C with him as a coach before in MTL and it seems like he's doing well in that role again so far this season

Sign me up for Nieto and Domi (although I will concede he may not be the answer for 2C unless Rodrigues steps up). In that case 2nd line becomes Landy-Rodrigues-Nuke
    And line 3 with Domi-Newhook-Compher

Trading for Stetcher seems like overkill.

uh huh because if the defending Cup champions come calling you’re going to sign with Chicago instead? Come on the week before they traded DeBrincat and Dach don’t QO Strome. Domi took what was available (no criticism) but if you think Domi he of 27 years of age having played for 5 teams is the answer at C because he has played well in 7 games in October I have some real estate I’d like you to buy.

Maybe some UFAs wanted to sign quick since the cap hasnt risen much and there wasnt much cap space to go around. I dont know all the details but based on reports he was jumping at the opportunity to play for Richardson again. If he waited then maybe COL wouldve called him up after they signed Lehkonen, who knows

Its just an idea, you dont need to be so quick to shut everything down, especially when there has been interest from the Avs in the past. Im not saying Domi would be the perfect 2C, maybe he ends up on the wing again and one of ERod or Newhook could play C but its an option at least

If Rodrigues/Domi is your 2C it will be a short-lived Stanley Cup defense.
