Can someone from Carolina explain why the Canes would make this trade? Are they in that much cap hell that they needed to shave $1.4 million this badly?
Carolina obviously didn't care about Bear, but I believe this trade is pretty fair. They get the player out of their hair and Vancouver gets a reinforcement for their bottom pair. I'd also imagine having Hoglander rumored in the deal gave Canucks fans a scare but Bear's value wasn't too much higher than a spare and Carolina were winning to send him anywhere.
It’s a decent deal for VAN that needs help desperately on the backend but I question why they are throwing a picks away (a 2nd to shed a contract and now a 5th) for a team that has a sub par prospect pool and are off to a terrible start. This team needs to be rebuilding.
I have no doubt that CAR’s scouting team will use that 5th to draft a player who will out perform Bear lol. Stop giving CAR picks
Who Patrick Alvin is having a good week. Never liked that the Oilers gave up on Bear as he seemed just a touch off of greatness. plus, Foegele is one of the best figure skaters I have ever seen (Hey Warren that thing in your hands is a hockey stick try using it)

EDIT:
will have 9 picks now in 2023
Management doesn't see the need to do a scorched Earth rebuild a la Arizona or Chicago, but I think they definitely recognize that the core needs to be shaken up by this point
The fact that Florida, Toronto, Vanvouver, etc didn't offer more than this ridiculous return with retention tells you how low is the market for dumping salary. WOW
Or there is some serious problem with Bear but that's speculative.
Anyway it also tells you how confident MTL is about their rookies to not beat that offer

I'd rather Widemen at league minimum than Bear for his current salary. Lateral move for double the salary
