Depends on what kind of year he has this year, he's off to a (uncharacteristically) slow start. The Sharks seem pretty terrible, so honestly, they might not even be the ones making this decision since trading him for futures seems like it might be the best move.
If he picks it up, has a year he's accustomed to having and is still with the team at the season's end, how hard would it be for him to argue for a long-term extension worth $10 million AAV, especially with the cap projected to go up soon? Especially since he has some leverage?
I hate proposing things like this, but the Sharks might be best off trading him
